The Bottom Line: I can't recommend this product. Just the thought of another one makes me feel sick!

| jo.com's Full Review: Slim Fast Juice-Based Shake Mix |
In my quest to lose weight I am attempting the Slim-Fast diet. When I was in the grocery store the other night the products were on sale and among others I bought the product I am reviewing, Slim-Fast Juice drink in powder form. The usual selling price in the store ranges from $6.49 -$6.99 but it was on sale for $4.49 so that was a good savings.
This product contains no fruit juice and I bought it because I thought it would be a good change from all the milk based Slim-Fast products I have been drinking. The directions say to use a blender or a shaker and mix 8-ounces with very cold fruit juice and 1 measuring scoop of the powder. They also recommend for a thick, super cold shake putting ice in the blender, mix the juice and the ice, then add the powder, and then mix again. I dont like using the blender. I am lazy about it so I really like a product that I can shake and wont clump when I do that. I have tried both orange and pineapple juice as the liquid in which to mix this powder.
How did this product fare?
I have had it many times since I bought it. I have given it a chance
lots of chances. I drink it in the morning since it is juice based and psychologically I think morning = juice. It isnt thick. Even with the powder in the juice the consistency isnt much thicker than a glass of orange juice. Just a tiny bit perhaps. It mixes fine without a blender. I just shake it up in a plastic container and that works.
It only has 8 grams of sugar so it isnt very sweet, but rather than just not being sweet it has a tangy, tarty taste. I want to compare it to sweet tarts if you know that candy. It leaves a slight tingling in my mouth and throat as it goes down. It actually makes me feel nauseous.
I read the other three reviews and I am the only one not recommending this product. I will be curious how others feel when they start trying it, if they do, after reading my review! Perhaps nausea is a good thing because I sure dont feel like eating after I drink it. It takes several hours for that feeling to go away. It isnt a full feeling, just sort of an upset stomach feeling. I have written to the company at their website: www.slim-fast.com and told them of my symptoms and asked if I could get a refund.
This product contains aspartame. I have never had a reaction to that sweetener. In fact just last night I had Iced Tea with an artificial sweetener and was fine. I always am. I tried the juice yet again this morning and feel the same way sick.
Some of the bars they make are so delicious it is hard not to compare the two products. The fact is one is delicious one is awful.
If you want to lose weight, are under 18, pregnant, nursing or want to lose more than 30 pounds see your doctor first. This is from the container and it goes on to say not to lose more than 2 pounds per week. All that I agree with 100%. If you need to know the American Diabetes Associations exchange for this product is 1 carbohydrate, 2 fruits and 1 very lean meat.
The following is from their website, which is excellent, by the way. For each nutrient that you see, such as Vitamin A, you can click it on and it will give you a blurb of why you need it: Vitamin A is important for vision in dim light, cell differentiation, and embryonic development. Good sources of vitamin A or provitamin A (beta-carotene) can be found in fortified milk, liver, and dark green leafy vegetables.

Notice that this only has 8 grams of sugar, which is a lot less than other Slim-Fast products about which you may have read.
The ingredients are: soy protein isolate, sweet dairy whey, sugar, soy fiber, gum arabic, maltodextrin, cellulose gel, soybean lecithin, and aspartame. It may contain traces of egg and wheat.
This products claim that it contains 24 vitamins and minerals is true and it is 99% fat free. In order to follow the Slim-Fast plan you have to have 2 shakes (or one shake and one bar) a day. I would definitely lose weight if I continued drinking the Ultra Slim-Fast that mixes with fruit juice since I cant eat and dont want to for the rest of the day!
In summary, I cant recommend this product at all. It doesnt taste good and it makes me feel horrible.
