4 weeks ago I decided to embark on a weight loss journey. You see my brother is getting married in a couple of weeks and I figured that 6 weeks would be an adequate amount of time to lose 10 pounds for the up coming event. I decided to toss aside the idea of the slow and reasonable diets and go for the more quick insane weight loss diets. After all, this needs to be quick and effective. After the wedding is over I will then follow a more slow and sensible diet.
The first week I decided to go with the Slim Fast Quick Start program. I have after all had a box sitting in one of my cabinets for about 6 months. That was one of those gung ho efforts that did not last past the purchase. Well after that initial 5 days of feeling like I was going to collapse from hunger I managed to lose 3 pounds. I took the weekend off and decided to proceed with the regular Slim Fast diet on Monday. By Monday I had regained about a ½ pound, but that was ok because I knew what I lost was mostly water weight any ways. Well after 4 weeks I have lost about 5 pounds. Not as much as I would have expected to lose while feeling so deprived all of the time but, it’s better than gaining and it is better than nothing. I also have to take into consideration that I take Saturdays off to eat what ever I want. Although I find now that on cheat day I tend to eat less and don’t crave the sweet stuff as much as I used to.
The Taste and Flavors
I personally like the taste of most of the shakes especially the Chocolate Royal, the Cappuccino Delight, Dark Chocolate Fudge and the regular chocolate. Being somewhat of a chocoholic these shakes are ideal for me. They are rich in flavor. The Vanilla is ok I like to drink it occasionally as a change of pace but, I don’t think I could stay on this diet very long if it was the only flavor. The Strawberry is also delightful for a change of pace. I do like it a bit more than the vanilla.
There are also fruit based drinks. In my opinion they are not as good. It is kind of like drinking fruit juice mixed with cream. They are also not as filling as the regular flavors. I always feel like I need to be eating a bowl of cereal when I drink them. So they are also just mainly used for a change of pace. I must mention also that these contain soy.
As I have stated I myself enjoy the flavor. But taste is an individual thing. My sister (hruizg) says she cannot stand it and that it makes her want to puke. So as you can see taste is simply a matter of your own opinion.

Once can contains 40% of your daily recommended amount of calcium, and 100% of your daily requirement for Vitamins C and E, it also contains vitamins A, D, K, B6 and B12, as well as many minerals. The idea behind the whole program is if you drink two shakes a day, have a sensible snack, and a well-balanced dinner you should be taking in all of the vitamins and minerals that the human body needs.
Cost
I feel that the cost is pretty decent considering that around a dollar a meal is pretty cheap. I have seen the ready to drink cans for any where from .96 to 1.09. Or you can buy a six pack for anywhere between $4.97 and $6.00. Fortunately for me at my local Walmart they had a great deal with a bonus 2 cans free so I got 8 cans for $4.97.
General Comments and Wrap Up
The way a person chooses to lose weight is definitely a personal choice. If you need to eat then this probably is not a diet for you. I have self control problems so this diet works well for me because I am limited to what is in the cans. It is easy and it does not allow my mind any room to interpret things in it’s own way. (You know like “I will just add 1 little bitty tablespoon more of sauce. It won’t hurt me.”) It is convenient I don’t have to plan and prepare every meal. I just refrigerate, shake and drink. Personally I like that.
Sometimes the shakes are filling enough for me and sometimes I am ready to eat the couch an hour later. Being on this diet takes a lot of self control. And I honestly don’t see it as being any quicker of a weight loss plan than some of the other more reasonable plans out there. But for convenience and ease you can’t beat it.
