| Magick1's Full Review: Smart Ones Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla |
I am always looking to try new things for lunch when I am shopping in the store (at least with the Smart Ones® that is). I found the Chicken and Cheese Quesadillas the other day and tried them for the first time. (Cheese = Queso/a - so this products name is a bit redundant.) But, the name aside, I thought the picture looked good and the ingredients sounded like something I would enjoy for a change of pace.
The Product
This package contains 2 quesadillas individually wrapped. The serving size is just 1 quesadilla, so please remember that if you purchase them or check them out in the store! The preparation is quick and easy, like all of the other Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® meals. You put 1 of these quesadillas into the sleeve that helps crisp up the tortilla and microwave it for only 1minute 45 seconds to 2 minutes 15 seconds. There are no conventional or toaster oven instructions for preparation on these items!
The sleeve has that metallic look inside the sleeve and this apparently heats up a bit more than the outside of the sleeve to crisp up (or at least keep the quesadilla from getting mushy). There are air holes on one side of the sleeve. These need to be on the top to allow the moisture to escape from the sleeve to help get the tortilla crisped up. Be sure to put a paper towel or plate under the quesadilla when you are microwaving it so that when the cheese melts it wont spill out into the microwave!
The quesadillas are small in size. If you are used to the tortillas on the market, they are the small sized tortillas. They usually have 3 4 sizes of tortillas or burrito wraps available and these are the ones that are roughly 6 inches in diameter and then obviously they are folded in half to hold the contents!
The quesadillas are not terribly thick, maybe ½ to ¾ an inch thick. There is a nice amount of cheese and other ingredients inside the quesadillas! I was pleasantly surprised. The most surprising aspect was the flavor. The chicken and the peppers and onions inside were very nicely seasoned and gave you a little kick when you ate them. It wasnt a jalapeno type of kick, but a nice seasoning that gave you a little punch without burning your mouth (think fajita seasoning). From reading the ingredients, its a poblano chiles kick. So, if you are familiar with these chiles, these are the ones giving a little punch in the taste buds!
The box says that there are 3 types of cheese, white meat chicken and the peppers and onions in this quesadilla. All of the items are blended together in the cheese so I cannot say for certain that all the chicken was white meat. But, I can say that there was a decent amount of chicken in each of these quesadillas! All of the pieces of chicken and the peppers and onions were small cut, so there were no really big pieces.

Overall Impressions
I enjoyed the Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla from Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® meals very much. The little kick that you get when you eat them was unexpected as I figured it would have some flavor but overall it would be mild. The kick from the peppers, onions and the poblano chiles make this a unique, delicious flavor that I enjoyed a lot. If you dont like a lot of spice, these might not be for you as it is just enough to kick without burning. But, if spice isnt your thing, these might have just enough spice to make the quesadillas over the top that you would not like them.
The size of the quesadillas was small, but the ingredients (all of the cheese and chicken) made them filling enough that you would not be hungry just after eating one. The preparation was quick and the tortilla was just enough crispy and just enough soft to make it enjoyable. Be cautious biting into these though, that cheese holds the temperature very well and you dont want to burn your mouth!
These will be one of the favorites that I will add to my shopping cart, as I really enjoyed the flavor, the kick and the size of the quesadillas. As mentioned in some of my other reviews of the Smart Ones® meals by Weight Watchers®, you can usually find these on sale in the local market for an excellent price: sometimes 3 for $5 or 2 for $5. So, watch for sales and stock up. But, even at regular price, they are not badly priced!
If you do watch the points values on the Weight Watchers® meals, 1 serving of the Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla comes in at a point level 4, so it is one of the lower ones that I have seen! If you try them I hope you enjoy them!
