Smart Ones Cranberry Turkey Medallions – Another hint of Thanksgiving!
Written: Apr 13 '08 (Updated Apr 13 '08)
Pros:Nice flavor, decent stuffing and nice potatoes, green beans and carrots!
Cons:Very little cranberry sauce, if this is why you are buying it, you will sad.
The Bottom Line: Very nice, filling meal!
This is one of the Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® Fruit Inspirations meals that they have been bringing out recently. I have enjoyed others in this collection and thought I should try this, since I enjoyed the other turkey meal so well. This appears to have bits of cranberry with the turkey pieces, stuffing and a mix of red potato wedges and green beans and carrots.
This is a hearty dish. It allows you to have some wonderful cranberries and turkey along with stuffing and potatoes and it is nicely done. But, I did have questions when I first looked at the package and compared it with what I got inside the box! I will explain what happened next.
The Product
The box has a wonderful picture of some delightful looking pieces of roasted turkey with just a drizzling of cranberry sauce. I was afraid the cranberry sauce would be overpowering or there would be way too much of it. I like cranberry sauce, in moderation. This definitely would fit moderation, as you really could not find the cranberry sauce! The stuffing looks wonderful and the potatoes with green beans and carrots look divine. But, let me just say, the picture is enticing and looking at the product in the dish wasnt so enticing!
The turkey, I almost worried about it. After microwaving the meal for the required amount of time (3 4 minutes depending on your microwave), I noticed the turkey appeared a bit pink. I wondered if the turkey wasnt done. Then, I thought about the cranberry sauce and realized that it must be the coloring coming from the cranberry sauce (which I could not find really anywhere in the dish, even under the turkey pieces).
The flavor was very nice. The turkey pieces were nicely flavored and there quite a few pieces to be had! The stuffing wasnt too bad either and had a really nice flavor as well. It appeared to be a bit more stuffing than the other Smart Ones® meal that had turkey and stuffing in it. That was mostly bread crumbs only. This had bits of celery, onions, and seasoning included making it a bit more true to stuffing that I enjoy.
The potatoes and the vegetables mixed in were very nice as well. They had that tender crisp quality to them making them seem steamed almost rather than micro waved in a meal. Most times when I have had micro waved vegetables they invariably seem to turn out mushy and unpalatable.

Overall Impressions
This meal rates 7 points on the Weight Watchers® points system if you use that at all. Overall, this is one of the lower sodium content meals that I recall. I wonder if it is due to their use of sea salt that I saw in the ingredients. I dont know, but its nice to see and I hope they continue down that path1
I enjoyed the flavor quite a bit. This meal really did take care of my hunger for the rest of the work day. I appreciate that. Normally, I dont pack a snack for the afternoon and I find some of the meals leave me hungry a short while later. But, this one did not. It really seemed to take care of those hunger pangs. I enjoyed the turkey as well, as it did make me feel the happiness that surrounds families during Thanksgiving. I will definitely be getting this meal again.
