| Magick1's Full Review: Smart Ones Dragon Shrimp Lo Mein |
Weight Watchers® has outdone themselves with a lo mein dish! I have to say, I wasnt very sure how this would taste when I saw this new item in the stores. But, I am adventurous and I bore of the same ole, same ole, all of the time! So, when I saw this, it was without a doubt that I would have to try it!
The Product
This is a very nice, not too spicy, lo mein dish with a nice amount of shrimp! The lo mein noodles and the vegetables (sugar snap peas and carrots) are prepared in a mild soy-garlic sauce.
The flavor of the sauce was delightful. I always worry about items being overly seasoned where the seasoning takes over the dish and you cannot taste anything in it (like the shrimp). But, this was nowhere near that! The flavor was gentle on the taste buds and delightfully enhancing the sugar snap peas, carrots, shrimp, water chestnuts and lo mein noodles!
The vegetables were also very nicely done, as they were not mushy and they were not overly crispy. They were perfectly tender-crisp. I enjoyed the flavor and crispiness, as they were as if they were steamed perfectly!
I was surprised by the size of the dish and the shrimp. Have you ever had shrimp that was almost microscopic to where you really could not pick them out of a dish? You wont have that issue with this meal. The shrimp were definitely not jumbo, but they were about the size of a quarter or a bit larger! I would have liked to have more shrimp in the meal. If I recall correctly, it had about 6 8 pieces of shrimp this single serving.
The meal is very easy to prepare. You can have this in and out of the microwave in roughly 3 5 minutes. My microwave at work usually has this ready in about 3 ½ minutes. If you need to prepare it by conventional oven, it will take 30 40 minutes after preheating the oven to 350. You have to bake it for 30 minutes with the film over the top, take it, stir it cover it back up and bake 10 more minutes. I have never used the conventional oven cooking method and I am unsure how long this would take.

Overall Impressions
I have to say that this was a very surprising meal. I did not think that the flavors would be so wonderful and would compliment the shrimp, lo mein, water chestnuts or sugar snap peas and carrots the way it did. I am glad I grabbed this dish. Believe me; I will get it again when I stock back up on my next shopping trip (if they are on sale)!
Normally, the bistro selections (which this is a part of), I have been able to find on sale for 3 for $5.00. This is an excellent price. Lately, I have been finding the sales for only 2 for $5.00, but I am sure they will have other sales!
If you are watching the Weight Watchers® points, this meal is valued at 5 points. (Some day, I will figure out what the points system is all about, how it works, and how the points work. Hopefully, this information helps someone out there, as I do not follow the Weight Watchers® program and never have.)
