Weight Watchers® Smart Ones® makes a wide variety of items for people watching their weight, doing the Weight Watchers® program or for people wanting things that are quick and easy to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This was something that I had not seen before, but my husband brought it home from the store one time when I asked him to grab something, anything for me to take to lunch.
I am not following the plan and I dont know much about the point values that Weight Watchers puts on each meal, but for those that are using this information, this item has a point value of 6. But, beware, this is per serving not for the entire package which contains 2 of these smartwich sandwiches.
The Product
These are like little calzones with pepperoni and sauce inside. But, they are not large like calzones. These were roughly 4 4 ½ inches long by roughly 3 inches wide and they were only about ¾ to 1 inch deep with the breading and the pepperoni, cheese and sauce inside. So, they were a bit smaller than calzones.
These little smartwich pockets were very easy to prepare. Each one was individually wrapped and you just had to open the package, put it in the microwave for about 1 minute 40 seconds and that was it. If you were doing both of the smartwich pizza pockets, you would microwave them for about 3 minutes. You can prepare them in an oven or toaster oven. You would need to pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees and remove them wrapper and bake them for 22 minutes in the oven and 33 minutes in the toaster oven.
Make sure that you do not over do the time on the microwave otherwise the edges will become hard to eat when these cool down! Another thing to think of is to be cautious when you take them out of the microwave (or oven) and let them cool down some. The contents get really hot inside the pockets and the pockets keep the heat very well. You dont want to burn your mouth biting into one of these pockets. Its kind of like molten lava if you do. The cheese and sauce will stick to your mouth and you will be tender for quite some time after eating a pocket when its too hot!
I was pleasantly surprised by these in the flavor and the ingredients. I had tried other Smart Ones® items that were similar, the Calzone Italiano, and I was surprised by the lack of ingredients inside the calzone. Those were mostly bread product. These little pockets were the opposite. The breading was fairly thin around the pockets and the insides were stuffed with cheese, pepperoni and sauce! And, the flavor was nice. It was not terribly spicy, but it was not boring either. There was a little bit of a zip to the ingredients but it did not overpower you at all. The sauce and the pepperoni made up most of the ingredients and cheese was there, but it was not overflowing with cheese.
The pockets themselves looked nice too. There were a few criss-cross cut score marks across the tops of the pockets and the pockets were nicely browned too. They were trying to make it look like fresh baked bread. The appearance was very nice. The breading was not spicy, it was just plain bread product. It was nothing like foccacia bread or anything like that!
One little pocket packs quite a few calories, sodium and other nutrients into your daily intake and it leaves you feeling a bit hungry afterwards being that it was so small in size. That was a bit of a letdown. I had hoped it would have been a bit more filling.

Overall Impressions
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of toppings in these pockets. After the calzones, I worried that it would be mostly bread with a little sauce, cheese and other ingredients inside. But, these were the opposite, more ingredients inside with a little bit of bread product surrounding the ingredients! That was a nice change.
The size was a bit disappointing, as they were small and 1 leaves you feeling hungry. But, reading the nutrition information, you see that you really dont want to eat 2 of these because they really pack a wallop on the sodium intake and calories. The Weight Watchers® point value is one of the higher ones I have seen. I think 6 has been the highest point value that I personally have come across and this is right there!
If you do enjoy pepperoni and like to feel like you are eating a pepperoni pizza, you would be better off buying one of the Smart Ones® pizzas that they offer. But, if you want the flavor of pizza without actually having a pizza, this is a good selection. I think I will buy these again, albeit only on a rare occasion. If you try it, I hope that you enjoy it. I know I liked the appearance and the flavor and I was not disappointed there at all.
