Intro

I got these for when I go out on hiking on trails or walking around the neighborhood for my health. The hook line and sinker for me was the density padding in the arch since I have a pretty high arch that needs additional support when I am on my feet for extended periods of time. And because my legs and ankles swell up sometimes and my shins have bone spurs from not wearing proper socks and shoes when I was younger means I need to have high quality socks such as these are.

Impression of Product

I am amazed at how well these sock work by providing comfort excellently. The lightweight padding in the heel and ball protect the foot from impact and shear forces and helps prevent blistering by the snug fit that it provides. These Smartwool socks are probably for sure one of my favorite type of socks for light jogging and hiking through wooded areas. The ventilation in the socks works excellently by drawing away moisture from the skin. The lace padding works by protecting the top of your feet from laces being tied up so tightly and therefore reducing the pressure exerted on top of the foot and the lower shins.

Other Care Directions

A fine point that is not well known is that you should not just forcefully pull on your socks because it causes permanent stretching which eventually will tear a hole in the socks or make them to where they are too loose to wear. Gently roll or bunch the socks pass on over toes to the heel then gently bring them up towards your calf. The point of this to simply prevent stretching and allow for them to be in service for years to come. I have done this practice with (my diabetic socks that I use for controlling swelling [a recent issue]) and steel toe shoe socks since 1997 (nine years and believe it or not some of the socks I still have from that time frame) and really does extend the life of the socks in general but especially in the heel region.

At some point during the time which you have these socks if you notice a loose end clip it as close as you can carefully to the sock with scissors to prevent premature unraveling or bunching or pulling or breaking. Warning Do not just pull a loose strand by hand!

Durability

These socks will last you for a few years as long as you keep yours shoes properly tied and toenails reasonable length; meaning that you feet are not loose in the boots rubbing against the heel portion and your toenails are at normal length so they do not essentially cut through the sock itself. Another thing that is important is proper washing and drying to extend life of the socks. I do expect the socks to last longer than five years because of how they perform as far as the level of comfort lasting with high endurance.

Wash

Cold water, fabric softner, and No Bleach.

Dry

Tumble Dry Low.

Conclusion

I wish I had socks like this when I was extremely active so that I would not have shin spurs at all or as badly. They are definitely worth their weight in gold for the comfort that is provided for me. I would recommend these to anyone who needs greater comfort for their feet.
