| MsHooterville's Full Review: Smashbox Anti Shine Smashing Neutral |
Even those of us who have relatively dry skin get those shiny spots on our faces. Those spots where your light makeup just doesn't seem to adhere. Mine is my nose and sometimes a bit on the forehead.
I've tried different ways to conceal shine including powder and tinted matte finish makeup that feels too stiff on the rest of my face, and the results haven't been long term satisfactory.
Having tried Smashbox's anti-shine tinted makeup before, I wasn't thrilled with the texture or the color match. But I gave Smashbox another chance with this newer product that goes on clear.
Off-white, But Dries Clear on The Face
Smashbox is a fun line of cosmetics, I've bought several other items including eyeliner and shadows. The Anti Shine Smashing Neutral looked like it might be the solution I was seeking, so I ordered it from Beauty.com along with some other items that allowed me to get free shipping.
The description of this product from the Beauty.com website is:
A revolutionary gel-to-powder formula that keeps skin matte all day. A smashbox innovation, Anti-Shine has revolutionized the way people with oily skin wear makeup. Designed to keep skin matte under the hot studio lights, this gel-to-powder formula is the ultimate in oil control with its light formulation and oil-absorbing properties. Use on oily areas only.
The 1 oz. tube was $27 and so far, looks like it will last about six months with daily use if you have only small shiny areas.
It has a texture almost like marzipan -- thick and a little bit pasty. That's why I suggest using just a dot on your fingertip and then dotting it on your affected areas. A little goes a long way.
Avoid Using Too Much
If you use too much of the product, it gets a little hard to control. It works best for me if I apply the Almay shade match makeup I've been using first, then dot Anti Shine on my nose, blending gently toward my cheeks to avoid affecting the makeup color.
After it's been on my face for a few minutes and warmed to my skin the blending seems to occur naturally, and my overall face looks smooth and shine-free, even though I only put Anti Shine on my nose.
Instructions at Beauty.com say Apply after moisturizer and before Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Use only in areas where you are oily. Apply using circular motions until completely absorbed. Wait 30 seconds and apply primer and foundation as usual. I varied slightly from this until I was pleased with the overall result.
It lasts all day long until you're ready to wash it off, and your usual facial cleanser should easily remove it.
Best Thing I've Found So Far
If you have tried tinted Smashbox makeup and not pleased with the results or the available shades (they were too dark for me), the clear/neutral will pleasantly surprise you.
The main ingredient is water, along with several other compounds and mixtures with excruciatingly long names, also available on the Beauty.com website. Despite the chemical-sounding names, there's no harsh feel to Anti Shine and I have used it for several weeks without any irritation or troubles.
