Pros: Speed and incline controls on the handles are convenient. Easy set up.
Good value.
Cons: A bit on the noisy side. Delivery was challenging.
The Bottom Line: The 5.0P is a good basic treadmill. Not a lot of fancy options, but runs really well and seems sturdy and durable. Also has an excellent warranty.

I love my new treadmill!
I've always been addicted to walking but, unfortunately, have also suffered from a chronic health problem related to air temperature that prevents me from walking briskly outside or even in a gym where the air temperature can really fluctuate. So my husband and I decided to invest in a treadmill that I could use in our temperature controlled home. We didn't have a lot of money to spend, but also knew from research that if we wanted anything at all decent we'd have to spend at least $800-$1000. So, after a lot of research on the web we settled on the Smooth 5.0P, which seemed like a good deal.
Delivery was a bit challenging. The SmoothFitness folks offer an "inside delivery" option for an extra $50. When the treadmill arrived at my house, the delivery driver indicated that he would not be hauling it up our 4 front steps to get it inside the house despite my extra delivery charge because (understandably) the thing weighs over 200 lbs. Luckily, my husband happened to be home and we convinced the driver that the three of us could haul it inside together. Once inside it was fairly easy to get it out of the box and set up was a breeze. There is no set up! It just unfolds. Plug it in - and - voila!
I've been using the treadmill everyday since it arrived and I couldn't be happier. Despite the fact that it's a bit on the noisy side, it runs well and the belt action is smooth. The incline feature is great and also very smooth - no jerking when you increase/decrease the incline. I also like the fact that there's a spot on the console for my water bottle and a built in shelf for a book or magazine if I choose to read. I haven't tried any of the three pre-set programs yet because the incline and speed controls are right on the arms making it very easy to adjust the settings every minute or so for my own personalized programs. I'm not a runner so I couldn't tell you how the 5.0P handles at much higher speeds, but so far it's done very well as fast as 4 mph. I also like the fact that SmoothFitness offers a 10-year warranty on the motor and has technicians who come to your home should something go wrong with the machine.
An added bonus to having the treadmill in the house is that my husband has started using it, too. We placed the treadmill on our four-season porch and have discovered that we're able to converse while one of us is walking and the other sits comfortably on the couch. Another nice way for us to spend time together.
