Pros: Solid (heavy) unit. Seemed to have good power when it ran.
Cons: Unreliable. Just try getting it serviced. Poor owner's manual. All preprogrammed programs are 20 minutes.
The Bottom Line: This is too large of a fiscal expenditure to purchase over the internet without trial. Buy a treadmill from a local retailer.

| cbintn's Full Review: Smooth 9.1 Series Treadmill |
My new Smooth 9.1 HRC was delivered on 1/04/02. I think it was manufactured by Spirit Fitness since it was shipped from their factory. It cost an extra $50 to have the shipping company (ABF) deliver it to my garage. It ran fine for a few weeks. It seemed like a fairly solid unit and I thought that I got good value for my dollar. After a few weeks, it started shutting down part way into a program. The problem continually got more frequent and the time that I could restart the unit longer. My 3 month old treadmill was completely out of service for a month. It was very difficult trying to get a company out of New Jersey to repair a treadmill in Tennessee. Smooth contracts through a service company (misnomer), who contracts through individual service technicians who, in theory, are supposed to repair your treadmill. Trying to get this coordinated through 3 parties was next to impossible. Sometimes it took days to speak with someone at Smooth's service department. The repair company came out once and failed to repair the unit. I was finally able to get the unit running by replacing the part myself with help from Smooth’s service department over the telephone. For a company that expects its sales to come "sight unseen" from internet customers who make buying decisions based on reviews, they don't seemed concerned with dissatisfied customers. If I had to do it over again I would purchase a treadmill through a "brick and mortar" retailer.
7/17/02 - Treadmill failed again. This time the running board cracked longwise. This unit is rated for 300 lbs. & I weigh in at around 190. This unit gets about 3 hours usage per week. Not heavily used. Same old monkey business trying to get it fixed. I only took 2 weeks to get it fixed this time.
