Pros: Delicious, Great energy booster, Price, Quality
There are not many candy products that I'll ever turn down, and my cholesterol, body mass index results, and weight are all consequences of this. There's just something decadent about candy in general, but anything with chocolate in it, is the best possible type. You can have anything from Mr. Goodbar, Three Musketeers, Raisinets, Milky Ways, and Kit Kats. My personal favorite is anything from British confectioner Cadbury, but I'm also a fan of Snickers candy bars. They are among the best around, and are a fantastic energy booster while out on hikes or exercise routines, or just to have as a tasty snack.
Snickers are produced by Masterfoods Inc, which is a division of the famous Mars Company. I wish I could say that they were manufactured in Hackensack, NJ since I just thing thats a funny name, but actually they are made in Hackettstown, NJ. You can buy them in different sizes, from fun sized to king sized, which is the one I always get. The king sized is 3.70 ounces in weight, which makes it perfect for a quick energy boost, and will leave you satisfied for a long period of time. They are delicious, and although this is the size I purchase, every once in awhile I've had one of their fun sized editions. I don't know why this is, but the fun sized ones taste a bit better.
What I really love about Snickers, is the quality of chocolate that they use. Its the best American mass produced version that I can find, and with apologies to my relatives loyal to Hershey, I'm in love with this non-Pennyslvania product. It is a medium dark chocolate, and is encased with nougats and peanuts, that make it a wonderful treat for any occasion. The chocolate holds the inner lining of the nougat and peanuts in place, and it has a lot of flavor for a low priced candy bar. It truly is a culinary delight, and the quality of all the ingredients, make it a must have for any candy bar lover.
The outer lining of the chocolate is a bit tough, so people who lack strong biting ability, may have some issues with this. However, for most it should be okay. The chewy middle makes up for the strong exterior, and I just love how it has a bit of a sugary flavor, that leaves you hankering for more. The strength of this candy bar is also helpful for transporting it from place to place. Snickers don't melt as fast as their competitors, and if you like a frozen one, you'll love it after its been in the freezer for a couple of hours. It adds a different complexity to the candy bar, and its worth a try if you like frozen chocolate.
The ingredients of Snickers are: milk chocolate, cocoa butter, chocolate, skim milk, lactose, milkfat, soy lecithin, artificial flavor, peanuts, corn syrup, milkfat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, lactose, salt, egg whites, chocolate, artificial flavor. Allergy Warning on the bar wrapper states that it may contain almonds, due to it being produced on lines with other chocolate bars. As for nutrition its not the healthiest item in the kitchen, but what do you expect from a chocolate bar? In a 1/3 bar serving, there are 170 calories, 8 grams of fat, 85 mg of sodium, and 18 grams of sugar. However, on the positive side it does have some calcium in it.
You cannot go wrong with this American classic. It truly is a national treasure, that I crave when I've been places where they don't sell them. Although I find the Mars Company's marketing campaign for Snickers slightly annoying, I will not let that get in my way of enjoying these candy bars. They are a perfect snack item, and I usually take several of them when go on hiking trips, since they seem to provide a decent amount of energy. Their low price makes them a reasonable alternative to those famous energy bars, that charge a lot more, for the same exact concept. If you haven't had a Snickers, give one a try, since they are a delicious candy bar that will lead you to want another.
