Pros:Amazing panoramas, soundtrack, feeling of flying.
Cons:Fast pass line long, ride felt a little short.
The Bottom Line:
Soaring at Epcot at Walt Disney World is a great ride for the whole family. The panoramas are very beautiful. However, fast pass should mean fast pass.
It is the best ride at Epcot. That was what our waiter at a French restaurant at the French Pavilion at the World Show Case told us. I agree it is a very good ride and it might be the best ride at Epcot. However, Test Track, Universe of Energy, Spaceship Earth, and Maelström, are also great rides. Naturally the best thing to see at Epcot is the World Show Case.
Soaring has some similarities to the Forbidden Journey at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, because you are lifted up with your feet dangling, mostly unaware of those around you, and you are surrounded by a movie, which gives you the illusion of flying. On the Forbidden Journey you are flying a broom stick, in Soaring you are flying on a hang glider.
Soaring is located in the Land pavilion at Epcot. It is to the right after you come in through the entrance. It takes fast passes, is wheelchair accessible and you need to be 40 inches tall or taller to go on it. The setup is that you are pretending to take a flight to California and you are loaded into gates. The ride is more than four minutes long and set to music. It still felt too short.
You will see amazing California panoramas of San Francisco, Golden Gate Bride, Redwood, Napa Valley, Monterey, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and Disneyland, a desert, the coast, San Diego, Los Angeles and more.
We used a fast pass for Soaring as the line was substantial (about 45 minutes). Unfortunately the fast pass was not that much faster than a regular pass. We were still in line for about 30 minutes. This was a disappointment as fast passes are usually much faster. I can add that I like the Universal VIP Express passes at Universal Studios better. You have to pay extra for them or you can also get them by staying at Universal Studios Resort hotel. However, they allow you to bypass the line at any time on any rides that takes them as many times as you like. This is extremely convenient for long distance travelers.
After the somewhat dreadful wait we were finally boarded. There were some preparation, lose articles and lose shoes had to be stowed away and you put on a seat belt. Then went up in the air and it felt like you were pushed into towards the movie screen as the wide screen OMNIMAX screen started showing amazing panoramas that made you feel you were flying. I've seen an IMAX movie before, which took you through cityscapes, mountains and other beautiful nature. That was very cool but this was better as it also gave a sense of flying.
I think Soaring is a great ride and a great experience even though it felt a little short and the long wait in the fast pass lane was a disappointment. I recommend it if you get to Epcot and I give this ride four stars.
Finally I would like to enter this review into carstair38's 4th Annual All Things Disney Write-Off since it is a Disney World destination and I am also hoping to add it to Jennifer Kate's Geography write-off since this Disney ride is related to Geography. You see various Geographical features and landscapes.
