Over the past few years I have purchased several varieties of the Bop Bag in characters and animals measuring 36 inches inflated. These only cost about five bucks and are always found at Rite-Aid or Sav-On. The Bop Bag has a separate chamber for water and then sand and takes awhile to pump up.
Just a week ago when perusing the aisles of Toys R US with my kids I spotted the Sockem Boppers selling at $9.99, which seemed easier than the alternatives we have had and workable for two kids to use at the same time. The box does show a boy blowing up the pillows manually, but since we have the Intex Pump my son was able to have both Sockem Boppers inflated in a matter of minutes.
The color is appealing in a purple and yellow ensemble that matches our Intex Jump-O-Lene. We are now keeping the Sockem Boppers inside this along with the Darby Dog. Play is not restricted to this area, but turns out to be a fun way to punch around inside with the balls and keep it all stored when not being used.
I was able to get my hand inside to test this out, but adult use is not recommended as this is intended for children only, as it could cause injury. Using excessive force to remove a hand from the chamber poses a risk. If there is a problem getting a hand out it is advised to deflate first. The chamber cushions the wrists and hands of my children inside the pillow. This also comes with a small patch in case of puncture. The valves are easy to fasten and can be opened and released for deflating. This is made of 12-qauge vinyl with the logo on the top part of the Sockem Boppers.
With either choice to inflate the Sockem Boppers you will need to avoid over inflating and should stop before filling it too tightly with air. When the hand has been inserted you just need to make a fist and this will keep the pillow secure in the hand of the child playing. It does not hurt when you are punched by the Sockem Boppers and lets kids get rambunctious in a fun productive way. Caution children when playing not to hit near the face and eyes and to avoid sharp and hot objects when using the pillows. This is not a flotation device.
The box also lists two games for kids to play, consisting of tight rope bop and one foot sock for alternative ideas. My two children are enjoying this freestyle play, plus my older son likes to take breaks from doing homework and can take out his frustrations in a fun and appealing manner. When using this outdoors take note of any hooks you might have on fences and stay in the middle of the yard. This would work well for boys and girls for parties and events at the park. The recommended age for the Sockem Boppers is broad from five to twelve. This is one of those As Seen on TV items that is worth purchasing, good for when kids are cooped up indoors when it is raining or snowing. Safety testing exceeded the standards for this pair of Sockem Boppers. If you need further assistance on finding these contact them at 1-800-419-3810.
