Pros: Accurate, High Value, Easily read, Easy to use, Excellent design.
Cons: ~4lb max weight, if you need more range, get one of the other Soehnle scales.
The Bottom Line: If you're managing your food intake, buy this now. You might also consider buying a PDA and dieting software. I use a Windows PDA and "My Personal Diet".

After considerable research, I found the Soehnle line well spoken of. Check out http://www.americastestkitchen.com/ratingchart/644.htm for a good write-up on several scales. The Soehnle came out on top and was the main reason I chose this brand.
This scale will tell you the nutrient values of 425 foods. You can change the values on any of the foods so as to customize for your use. Many of the foods in its memory are European and will require some customization for USA. Here's how it works:
1. If you're going to put your food in a bowl or something, put it on the scale before turning the scale on. Otherwise, just turn it on.
2. Put your food on the scale.
3. Enter the 3 digit number representing the food. Press the icons representing fat, calories, cholesterol, carbohydrates, or protein to see the value for the given quantity and type of food.
Programming for different foods isn't hard, but you will need a printed index of some type to know which number is for which food. A chart is included for the pre-programmed foods, but if you do any significant changing, you'll need to make your own.
Go to http://www.netcrafting.com/scale/instructions.pdf for the enlarged english version of the manual. Go to http://www.netcrafting.com/scale/scale_database.xls for my spreadsheet to keep track of food items. Adjust it to suit your needs.
-Update on pricing- I have found this scale for quite a bit less than what is in this review, but cannot remember where. Shop around and you'll find it.
I bought my scale at http://www.livingincomfort.com. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They shipped the scale UPS Overnight, and it arrived 4 days later. I did not expect overnight shipping, but couldn't resist bringing it to their attention that UPS goofed. In response to my email dated 2/7, they replied on 2/9 that they were refunding my shipping costs. Wow... I received a confirmation email shortly after ordering which included a tracking number. Their pricing was the best I found on the web. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. general_delivery@nospamnetcrafting.com Remove the nospam to get it right.
The battery is replaceable lithium, like a watch battery.
