When it comes to grooming and personal hygiene, the inevitable always occurs: No matter how careful I am to make sure to purchase enough of my own bathroom supplies, a time will come when I run out of my favorite product and am forced to borrow some from the Misses. This happens with shampoo, shaving cream, and other products. It can also happen with body wash and as much as I dislike the scent of most womens body washes, if there is nothing else to use and its early in the morning, I have no choice but to give in. This is how I recently got to know Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango Moisturizing Body Wash, a body wash with a strong citrus scent.

Basic Facts About This Product:
Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango is red in color with moisture beads throughout. The liquid is a little runnier than other body washes. The scent of this product is strong, with the smell of grapefruit dominating. The bottle is large in size, with 18 oz. (532 ml) to last a good long time.
This body wash is made from a soap- free formula, just like other Soft Soap body wash products. It utilizes natural pomegranate and mango extracts to achieve its interesting scent and moisturizing qualities. And in addition to cleaning the skin, the manufacturer even recommends using it as a shaving lotion.
This product is made using Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-8, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance, Mineral Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract, Mangifera Indica Fruit Extract (Mango), Punica Granatum Fruit Extract (Pomegranate), Aracia Senegal Gum, Gelatin, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, DMDM Hydantoin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Benzophenone 4, Citric Acid, FD&C Red 40, and Ext D&C Violet 2.
Softsoap makes several different body wash products and Pomegranate and Mango is one of several I have tried. I had no intention of using this product until I ran out of my mens specialty body wash one morning. There was no time to go purchase more body wash and there was no bar soap to use as a substitute. This left me no choice but to give in and sample this product. I have found other Softsoap body wash products to be high in quality, so why not Pomegranate and Mango? It seemed like a small risk, so I flipped the plastic cap open and gave it a try.
The quality that I noticed immediately with this body wash was the strong scent. The smell of grapefruit practically knocks you out- like an India Pale Ale with 150 IBUs. When I got a good whiff of this scent, I wasnt so sure I should continue. Dont get me wrong- I love the smell of citrus. I love it in my air freshener, in my beer, and in my glass of morning beverage. But I dont love it on my person. I was tempted to give it up and use shampoo as my body wash. But I finally decided to stop whining and give in. And what I discovered surprised me, leading to a positive experience and a recommendation.
Among the good qualities of this product, the most pleasantly surprising of them all is the fact that the citrus scent doesnt linger on your skin. I know some people are crazy about this scent and would love to smell it everywhere they go. But I felt it was far too strong and besides, I dont want to get comments at the office about how I smell like a breakfast beverage. But the surprising fact is that this scent, while very pronounced coming out of the bottle, fades away quickly once you rinse. The scent it leaves behind is one that is more or less similar to ordinary soap: a little bit floral and a little bit fruity, but not even close to the way it smells when you first use it in the shower. This was a great relief and I noticed it immediately upon exiting the shower.
Like many other body washes, Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango features the added luxury of moisture beads. This soap does feel very moisturizing when applying it, but it doesnt necessarily moisturize the way the manufacturer promises. However, it does prevent the feeling of dryness. Many bar soap products leave your skin feeling dried out and slightly rough. But your skin feels good after using Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango; not necessarily moisturized, but not dry either.
Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango is a little runnier than I prefer. One has to be careful when pouring because unless you slap the body wash on your skin quickly, it can easily roll right off your hands and onto the shower floor. Other Softsoap body washes are like this, too. It would be nice if it was thicker, but it is still good the way it is. And its lack of adhesion makes it very easy to rinse away. There isnt a great deal of lather, either. But this isnt necessarily a bad quality. Loads of lather often results in a psychological feeling of clean, but this isnt necessarily the case.
Overall, Softsoap Pomegranate and Mango is a good body wash with a strong scent that fades into a mild, pleasant smell on the skin. I likely wouldnt have tried it if my own body wash hadnt run out. But now that I have sampled it, I can attest that this is a good body wash product and I recommend it for use by everyone. The scent is strong, but if youre a man, dont worry- it will fade away to a pleasant enough aroma that wont leave you embarrassed.
