hawknoah's Full Review: LUSH Cosmetics Soft Coeur Massage Bar The Honeymoo...
Lush Products
My wife and I are big fans of Lush. We discovered it in Scotland years ago, as we were able to smell the wonderful scents coming from the store from down the block. Next we saw the stores on our trips to Toronto and ultimately word got out because they started opening local stores as well. While some of their products work better than others, I like the overall concept and enjoy browsing all the great smelling and interesting products at the store.
Lush Massage Bars
One of Lush's many fun, unusual line of products is their massage bars. These look sort of like soaps, but if you mistakenly used them as soap, you would be quite confused. You simply rub the bars in your hands to heat them up a little and then they start to melt just slightly and you can then use them on your partner (or yourself), leaving behind a scented, penetrating oil on their skin all ready to be massaged. I suppose the massage bars could double as body moisturizers as well.
Use/Needs
My wife likes to get massages, she has chronic muscle aches in her shoulders and back so I help her out best I can. I'm not trained in massage at all, but I seem to have learned what feels good to her and helps her feel better. Occasionally I am the lucky recipient of a back massage from her as well. Massage oil, lotions that are pliable, or one of these bars is definitely a must as dry massages just don't seem to do the trick.
Scent
Soft Coeur's primary scent is chocolate, with subtle hints of vanilla as well. Its scent is more subtle than many Lush products, but very pleasant-- it could actually stand to be a bit stronger since it's no nice.
Usage
The Soft Coeur bar is heart shaped and roughly 3 inches in diameter at most. It is flat on the bottom and has curvy (like a three dimensional heart) on top, making the flat side the more obvious one to use. The bar slides around with some effort warming the bar in your hands for several seconds. It leaves a reasonable sheen of massage oil with a few passes over the body. The bar is light tan/off white in color and goes on clear UNTIL you hit some of the hard chocolate interior (think chips) which stain a bit and is rock-hard and difficult if not slightly painful to slide on skin.
Experience
The oil penetrates well and feels good, once you're done spreading the bar around sufficiently. The scent is lovely and helps stimulate the senses, although it could actually stand to be stronger in that regard. After a few uses, unfortunately, the Soft Coeur bar starts to turn dry and eventually crumbly. Once the hard chocolate pieces on the interior of the bar find their way to the exterior through use, the bar becomes much less useful. The Lush massage bars tend to be big enough that they "expire" (like most Lush products do) before we can finish them, and this is no exception. Despite the fact that it's smaller than the other bars, we give up on using it before running out.
Value
At $8, this is a fun little splurge, although it's not as big and hearty as Lush's other massage bars. Be sure to store it in a zip lock baggy to keep it fresh and so it doesn't rub off on anything and leave oils or chocolate stains behind or dull its scent. This item appears to be readily available at all Lush stores year-round.
Overall Impression
Great fun, particularly the first few times you use it, but you can buy better massage bars from Lush.
