Pros: Extra large, four heat settings, auto shut-off.
There are times when I get that "ache all over" flu-like illness that I am thankful I own a heating pad. I recently purchased this SoftHeat heating pad because my old pad wasn't heating up very well. I had never heard of this brand before, but it had all the features I was looking for.
* Large 12" x 24" size
* Four heat settings (Warm, Low, Med, High)
* Extra long 9 foot cord
* Soft, thickly quilted pad
* Moist or dry heat
* Machine washable
* Auto Shut-off
* Fast heat-up
* Evenly distributed heat
* 5 Year warranty
* Individually lighted push button controls
This is a king sized heating pad. The plush, thick quilting is a light blue color, and it reminds me of my Sunbeam heating pad, except this pad is very generously sized! Most heating pads I have owned have been pretty standard, but this pad, produced by Kaz Incorporated, is a bit different. It has a few really nice features that I felt were worth paying a little bit more for.
The pad plugs into a standard 120 volt AC electric outlet, and with the extra long cord, I can sit on either our couch or loveseat and reach the outlet. There is a light indicator on each of the four heat settings. The heating pads I have owned in the past had one control that you continued to push until the desired heat setting was reached. This controller actually has a separate button for each setting, and it also has a "warm" setting that none of my other pads have. (They have low, med, and high only).
The pad also heats up very quickly. It reaches it's maximum temperature in a few minutes. It is designed for the fastest heat-up allowed by UL standards.
My Impressions on the SoftHeat Heating Pad
I love this heating pad. It's large size really makes it quite versatile for any areas of my body. It will wrap all the way around my back and sides as well.
I like the control pad much better than other brands I have owned. The light next to each selection (except for the off button) is a dim green, instead of a glaring orange. When you push on the selection buttons, a light will appear next to that button. Switching from one setting to the next is simple and quiet! There are no clicking sounds. The off button is the only button that has a red indicator light.
My husband is always concerned about leaving the house with an appliance left on. He worries about a curling iron, clothes iron, coffee pot, etc. With this pad there are no worries, because it will automatically shut itself off after 60 minutes.
The SmartHeat technology used in this heating pad is also a bit different from what I have seen in the past. For optimal heat therapy, the heat should remain in a consistent heat range. SmartHeat uses a state-of-the-art microchip technology, that eliminates spikes in heat, and will instead deliver a more even heat - a more comfortable heat.
The company included a diagram of the differences between SmartHeat Heating Pads and Standard Heating Pads. The picture shows standard pads raising in temperature from 85 degrees to 125 degrees. Then the standard pad will fluctuate between 105 and 125 degrees during use. The SoftHeat pad, on the other hand, will raise from 85 degrees to 125 degrees, where it will remain at a constant temperature throughout the use of the pad, until it shuts itself off after one hour. If you desire to use it longer than an hour, you simply turn it on again and you will continue to have heat for one more hour.
Sometimes I get chilled and just want some gentle warmth on my feet or legs. The Warm setting on this pad is perfect for those occasions! The highest setting doesn't get as hot as one of my previously owned heating pads, but then that one would almost get too hot. The thick quilting on this SoftHeat pad protects me somewhat from any heating elements. Each time I've used it, the pad has gotten plenty hot enough for my needs.
Although the manual says this pad can be used with dry or moist heat, I always use it dry. To use with moist heat, the manual says to unplug the cord from the electric outlet, dampen one side of the pad with a spray bottle of water, plug the power cord back in and set at desired heat setting. Always press the off button first, before unplugging the power cord (with either dry or moist heat).
Care and Cleaning Instructions
Do not dry clean this pad, and do not use bleach while washing it. There are two locking clips on either side of the connector. Disconnect the power cord by squeezing the clips. This pad can be washed on the gentle cycle of your washing machine and can be tumble dried on medium heat. You can also hand wash in warm water and line dry.

I love the extra features that this SoftHeat pad offers. The size is very generous, it heats up very quickly, and remains at a constant temperature without fluctuating. The warmth has given me relief from aches and pains, arthritis, back and muscle pain, as well as sports related pain (like pulled or strained muscles).
