badragon's Full Review: Solid Gold Canned Cat Food
Solid Gold Tuna is another of the organic cat foods that are supposed to make are cats healthier and happier. It is made primarily with tuna, tapioca and canola oil. Those are great foods for us, low in saturated fat and high in vitamins. However a diet high in fat is healthier for cats and there is a lot of mercury in tuna. That is as bad for them as it is for us. All of my kitties love the food, but then I like ice cream too . . . .
Many veterinarians also believe that tuna, if fed too often, can cause disease in cats ranging from liver problems to kidney failure and a couple of things in between. As this food is also high in salts, I am sure it can't be the best thing for a cat with kidney problems. My four are rescue kitties and Chance already has had some urinary tract problems, so I don't want to create any more for him.
Solid Gold Tuna is also priced fairly high - $1.99 for a small 3oz can, It can be difficult to find. Many stores do not carry it. And you will probably need to find a specialized organic cat food dealer Even then, they may need to order it for you. It is available online at several of the dot com stores that specifically handle pet foods.
The bottom line on this food is that it is probably a fine snack or occasional meal, but I wouldn't want to feed it to mine regularly.
