Solo cup company has developed a new product that is meant to use to put left overs into after dinner. These are deep dish plastic plates with side handles that the consumer can fill and then cover with a clear plastic lid.

These come in a package of five plates and lids. They sell for between 2.39 and 2.59 per package. The lids can snap on tightly and they seem to have a nice seal. These plates are good for the refrigerator and they are ok for the microwave. Do not put them in the dishwasher!
This is a great concept and a great idea. So we put these plates to the test in our home.
We had a greek dinner during a birthday party. After the party we used these plates to pack up left overs. Greek food is pretty messy with the light tomato sauces. The tight seal kept the messy sauces inside. We liked the clear lid because we could see inside. The black bottom dish seemed very sturdy when it was holding cold food.
When we used them in the microwave the next day they got pretty hot and then become quite flimsy due to the heat. So they were not easy to handle. They have side handles which do not get hot, but the plates become very twisty and flimsy after microwaving from the heat of the food. This makes this product difficult to use.
We had a birthday party and friends over and after the party we used some of the plates to serve up cake that was left over for guests to take home. This was nice. Easier than wrapping the cake in a plate and napkin and the family members liked that they could take home cake and not have it spill in their cars. However, these plates are meant for more food than cake so it would be helpful if we could choose to purchase these in smaller sizes.
Often we will have to keep taller items in a large deep dish and this dish is deep enough for lasagna and spanecopita and double layer birthday cake. This did not smash the frosting to the top lid. Which was nice.
However, I honestly would not use this for microwave foods. It is too flimsy and not as easy to handle as the packaging suggests. But, for lunch, I put a sandwich and chips and a pickle in it and stuck it into my husband's backpack and his food stayed fresh. The pickle juice did not leak!
If you are planning a picnic with cold foods these are wonderful to use. But forget using it to heat up food. We have washed them out and reused them a few times. That is workable. But with hot food they become slimy and hard to wash out. I like to reuse items like these.
My son is using these for his Littlest Pet Shop carrying case. He can see into it, it seals tightly and he can stack them up in his room on his shelf. They are stackable.
I received a package of these from the Solo Cup Company in exchange of my honest review of their new product.
