Pros: 3 stars without my conversion...4 1/2 with conversion.
Cons: Weight straps are crap...lol Good exercises and lots to do.
The Bottom Line: I really like mine now, since I did the free weight conversion to it. I suggest it to anyone that wants the feel of free weights and not straps.

| dcfan808's Full Review: Soloflex |
I bought my Soloflex about a year ago, and will bluntly say, using it with the weight straps didn't do much at all, to tone my arms and chest. Then it hit me, why not modify it, to use regular free weights and see what happens. Now, I wouldn't trade it for anything!!
Before I got into details about the modification, I will say that using for the other exercises, like the pull ups, chin ups, sit ups, and dips, it's great. I say it's a very versatile machine in that regard. Now, using it with the straps, leaves a lot to be desired.
You see, when you use the straps, as they stretch they are very tight, but they seem to reach a certain peak, that after they stretch, they seem to get "give" a little. Also, on the way down, they just don't seem to have that "feel" with free weights.
So, I decided to convert it to use free weights, and I couldn't be happier. The greatest thing about the Soloflex, for weight lifting, is that they way the bench bar is made, it will bottom out at a certain point, so no need for a spotter, in case you can't lift the bar off of your chest.
To modify it, I took a standard weight bar, cut off both ends, at about 10-11 inches. Then i drilled two holes into the soloflex weight bar. Stick each "end" piece into the end of the weight bar and mark them, with a marker. Next, drill a smaller hole into one of the "ends" and tap it, so a small bolt will screw into it. Put each "end" into the weight bar, stick a bolt through the hole you drilled into the weight bar, and start to tighten it, into the tapped hole in the end piece. Tighten, and viola, you have a free weight bar. I use mine weekly and will say the results are much, much better than the free weights.
Now, if I rambled on about how to convert your to free weights, its just so that you don't get discouraged from using it and may want to try this conversion. With the conversion now, I will never get rid of this piece of equipment. Also, it doesn't get in the way of doing other exercises, like pull ups, chin ups, and dips.
With that said, even without the conversion, I still would give the soloflex a positive review. You can do so much with this, without the needs of free weights. You won't have a ripped look, but i'm sure a very tone look. Of course as they say, your results will vary and also will recommend proper use with a healthy diet and also, BEFORE ANYTHING, consult a physician before any strenuous use...lol
