Rockit to the moon with the best legs in outer space by Soloflex

Aug 17, 2006 (Updated Oct 23, 2006)
Review by
Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Works all leg muscles, calves and buttocks; well made.

Cons:Really none.

The Bottom Line: This is a great machine. It impressed me.

I’ve had a chance to see a couple of pieces of equipment made by Soloflex. Rockit by Soloflex is an impressive machine. In many of my reviews when I’ve referred to squats I’ve said that you should be shown how to do them properly. In addition I’ve noted that squats and lunges were fantastic exercises for your entire leg all the way into your butt. These muscles are the quadriceps (front of thigh); hamstring (back of thigh); gluteus (buttocks); gastrocnemius/or soleus muscle (calf) and even down into your feet. Soloflex has made a great machine that targets all these and takes the guesswork out of doing them. Rockit will cost you around $1700.

A Closer Look:

Rockit is 5 feet high. The base of the machine measures 4 feet by 6 feet. It weighs 215 pounds. I found this sturdy and stable. More importantly I found it extremely safe. In spite of that please talk with your doctor if you have never exercised or have a medical condition.

It is 6 feet tall and 4 feet by 4 feet at the base so it takes up a lot less room than other machines. The bench will hold up to 1,500 pounds!

Rockit has a 90-day money back guarantee. It has a five-year warranty.

What it comes with:

Like the original Soloflex machine I reviewed, Rockit also uses weightstraps rather than a stack machine. It is hard to believe that these straps really do the job but they do! Since there is no digital technology little can go wrong with Rockit but if you have a problem with it, including the weightsraps, Soloflex gives you a nice warranty.

You’ll get a total of 330 pounds of resistance. Specifically you’ll get 4, 50 pound weightstraps (I will be explaining these.); 4, 25 pound straps; 2, 10 pound straps; and 2, 5 pound straps. Of course these straps don’t weigh this amount but you’ll have to keep reading!

Unlike the Soloflex machine which allowed me to use freeweights (plates) but the weights didn’t come with the machine, weights come with Rockit. You’ll get 2, 10 pound weights and 2, 5 pound rubber coated weights by Soloflex for a total of 30 pounds.

Let’s use it:

As I said in my previous review I think the weightstraps are interesting. I said the following in that review “I don’t totally understand the science behind them but the way it has been explained to me is that these heavy duty hard rubber straps use the stored energy in the rubber to equal the resistance I would get with free weights. A physicist helped clarify this by leaving the following comment, "I wouldn't say that the machine works due to "stored energy", as no useful energy can be obtained from the bands when they're slack. This is pretty simple, or so it seems to me--you're just stretching a thick, stiff rubber band. Instead of taking advantage of the gravitational force on weights to provide resistance, this setup takes advantage of the elastic force exerted by stretched rubber."

The straps are placed on two rods near the base of the machine. This is called an adjustable spacer. There is a pole which is attached to the lower arm which is attached to a nicely padded long backrest. I put weights on this pole. I could use the straps and the plates at the same time. If I wanted to add even more weight with plates this pole has holes on each side in which a sort of extension bar can be inserted to accommodate more weight. In total Rockit can accommodate 900 pounds of weight. This is enough weight for even the most massive bodybuilder. Let me know if I’m wrong about this. I’d like to know if you can squat or press more than 900 pounds!

I liked the padded footplate. Unlike most machines at gyms that have my feet on metal the cushioning on Rockit kept my feet and ankles really comfortable.

I found that the range of motion (This is the range that a joint can be flexed and extended.) was excellent on Rockit. In addition after working out on it I felt that it had worked the same muscles as well if not better than when I do squats, lunges, hamstring curls, calf raises and other leg work on separate machines at the gym.

I started by putting the straps on the machine. I did change these depending on what exercises I did. It only takes seconds to change them. I then leaned against the back rest, holding the hand grips and put my feet on the foot plate. If you have never used a machine without a seat (Some calf machines work like this.) this will take a bit of getting used to. The machine may look like you are holding up your weight and in a sense you are but once you are on it, you won’t feel this way – at least I don’t.

In this position I can now do a number of exercises. I did a lunge by keeping one leg on the footplate and placing my other leg on the pole that I put weights on. Pushing against the foot plate makes the machine move (You will know exactly what I am talking about if you do leg presses.) back and then I brought it forward in a lunge position. I could also do calf raises but with both sets of toes on the footpad. Barbell squats and hack squats are also traditional leg work that can be done on Rockit. I want to mention sissy squats. I’ve been doing these for years without a machine. They are really hard to do in spite of their name. In fact my husband won’t do them in the gym because he feels they aren’t safe. You won’t have to worry about safety on Rockit. The way they are done on Rockit is by putting both toes in the middle of the footplate so you are on your tip toes. As I brought the machine back I lifted my butt. Hold in your abdominal area and it works the front of your legs, your butt and your core muscles.

I love Rockit. It is safe and works so many muscles with one machine. It might sound expensive but if you are looking for something other than a universal piece of equipment then I would highly recommend this. Many pieces I have noted are not for the elite athlete. They either don’t offer enough resistance or aren’t stable enough. Rockit offers both.
