Having a good powder brush is an essential investment because it is something used every day and plays an important role in good makeup distribution. Since powder obviously can't be applied with fingertips (what a mess!), a nice big, soft powder brush is key.
A couple year back while shopping at my local Target store, I decided to try a very nice-looking, appealing powder brush with a clean looking white handle and big fluffy bristles.
The Product: Sonia Kashuk Powder Brush
Sonia Kashuk Powder Brush as described on www.Target.com:
Natural hair lends a luxurious quality to this powder brush, giving you the lightest dusting of powder for an all-natural (and picture-perfect) look
Powder brush designed by Sonia Kashuk to take away the shine yet leaves your face glowing
A great tool for a final dusting once youve completed the entire face
"Have fun!" -Sonia
How These Claims Live Up:
Claim #1: Natural hair lends a luxurious quality to this powder brush, giving you the lightest dusting of powder for an all-natural (and picture-perfect) look
I would have to agree that this brush does a great job of lightly distributing powder across my face. I love how lightweight and silky the bristles feel on my skin. I find that my powder does not cake, but just the right amount seems to be distributed even on times when I forget to tap the rim of the powder case to shake off loose powder.
Claim #2: Powder brush designed by Sonia Kashuk to take away the shine yet leaves your face glowing
I am guessing that this claim means that the bristles only cling to a small amount of powder for distribution, because there is no way that a brush (unless with a powder dispenser) could promise to take away shin but leave your face glowing. That's really more up to the powder itself. But as stated earlier, these soft bristles don't distribute too much powder and so, yes, my face does look soft and glowing but not cakey. (I would still give the shine-free-look-credit to my powder.)
Claim #3: A great tool for a final dusting once youve completed the entire face
This really is the only brush I use once I have completed apply my makeup (liquid foundation, concealer, and blush) to sweep across my face and help to hold my makeup in place all day. It is so soft that it is pleasant to use and so I look forward to putting on that finishing touch.
My Experience:
This brush also has a nice, thick handle for easy gripping and bristles that stay put (don't you hate the brushes where a bristle falls out onto your face while using it so you have the look of this big mammoth eyelash clinging to your cheek?).
In a pinch, I have used this big brush as a blush brush, but had to use my fingers to really blend since it is such a big brush! (perfect for powdering).
This brush delivers a very even application! I have noticed with other brushes that I sometimes need to use my finger tips to spread out what the brush couldn't. Then I would end up with a pancake face, and who wants that? This brush helps achieve a nice, natural look.
The soft bristles are very gentle to the skin. I have very sensitive skin and this brush comforts my skin without being abrasive while applying my powder.
Where To Buy:
As far as buying in stores, I am pretty sure that the Sonia Kashuk line is exclusive to Target. Possibly some retailers online sell the products as well. To order, simply go to www.target.com and type in "Sonia Kashuk Powder Brush 01" (02 is a blush brush and is much too small for powder distribution).
I purchased mine at my local Target store a couple years back (I use it often and it is still in great shape!) for $11.99. This is a moderately priced brush, but I have been very happy with it and would recommend it.
Final:
This is a nice brush that I have enjoyed using. Should it wear out and I need a new powder brush, I will probably try out a different brand because the price is a little steep for a Target product (MAC and Clinique brushes are just a step up). However, if you need a reliable, soft brush and are shopping at Target, you will not regret throwing this one into your cart!
