I'm sorry to hear you have had a bad experience with the Sony. A good freind of mine as had nothing but bad luck with them, I myself have experienced the opposite. Either way, I'm sure you will be very happy with the Alpine, they make a great product that performs as designed for years, and I'm actually about to do a review of that very changer along with a 7998. Alpine makes an outstanding amplifier as well.

Yes, most Sony decks are set up for magazine shuffle and/or single disc. My 900 will do either so will a friends CDX-M730. But before I give you a blanket response, which h/u do you have EXACTLY.
Now, regardless of h/u, you will be able to simply swap out the changer. Nothing more to it and at least you will have already run the turn on and signal lines!
This is all assuming the current deck is a Sony which I am assuming it is.

hey, thanks for the review...i'm considering this player but am totally amateur at all this. i have 2 concerns:
1. i had a hell of a time getting a home dvd/cd/mp3 carousel that would shuffle play properly. if i were to put 10 mp3 cd's, will it shuffle tracks on all 10 discs or just on one disc if its mp3? i don't want to install this thing and then discover it can't do that.
2. i have an older sony cd changer in my car now -- can i still use the deck and swap out the changer to use this one? or do i have to buy a separate deck, too? it doesn't come with one, does it?

I can't help you there unfortunately. My deck (XR-C900 ES) was made far prior to these units being on the market. It will let me name the disc, thats it. As far as I know what you are experiencing is all you will get, but I am not too familiar with that unit. Your best bet may be to go back to the retailer, most of the time they know. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I have a sony MD head unit (c800rec) and just installed the 757mx.
unit is very good. However, I can't see id3 information?? Are you able to see id3 tags without any problem?
I can only see the 8+3 filenames.
(and I wish they could have developed a way to seek folders the way the Aiwa mp3 enabled cd head units do.. )
BUT, the 757mx is a great unit... ;)

No offense, but it is kind of obvious. You are siding with Freak69 and she has been downrating me ever since she found out that I am anti-feminist. She even downrates my Very Helpful and Helpful reviews. I would apologize to her if she just admitted the obvious, and if she would apologize to me for saying I am "closed-minded" (As you can see from my MPAA review I am QUITE liberal! :D ), but she won't so until then I can't allow myself to be bullied.

And, unlike those of you who downrate me because of my anti-feminst ideals (which are based on FACT...check my link to independent woman's forum), I am not downrating you because you are pro-feminist (although this is like being a Nazi).
