| maryed93's Full Review: Sony Handycam CCDTRV118/ Hi8 Hi-8 Analog Camcorder |
We've had the Sony Hi-8 for several years now and have never had any problems with it. It is very simple to use and the buttons are clearly marked. My children even use it without any problems.
The recording quality is good, although my new dvd camcorder is a bit clearer, this one is still acceptable. It isn't really sensitive to movement so you don't have to worry if you are not completely still while recording.
The Sony Hi-8 is well built and can take a few bumps without breaking, at least mine has held up well. The battery life is still great even after all these years of use. It is a bit heavier than some of the new camcorders out there but not so bad that you can't carry it in a bag over your shoulder or hanging from the included strap around your neck.
We purchased a new Sony dvd camcorder last year and although it does have nice picture quality it has a few issues that need to be worked out. The Hi-8 can record on one tape for a much longer period of time and I do feel that the Hi-8 is a bit sturdier than my new one. My husband won't use the new camcorder because he can't seem to get the hang of it so he is still using this one all the time.
Now that these can be purchased for a lower price I would say it's worth every penny to be able to have your memories stored forever. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that you need to transfer these over to a VHS or DVD or you will always have to make sure you have the Hi-8 camcorder to play back your small tapes. I worry that these will soon become obsolete so that could be a problem in the future for playback.
