| d2privat11's Full Review: Sony CDX-GT200 Car CD/ MP3 Player |
Background - The player came with my purchase of a used car and is several months old, therefore performance may differ a little. Setup is with aftermarket speakers, no subs, no amps.
Looks - It has a nondescript look to it, nothing that will impress anyone, but also not an eye-catcher for potential thieves. Fit and finish is good, Sony quality, lighting is easy on the eyes and the display is clear with large letters (white letters on a blue background).
Layout - I believe Sony has produced user-intuitive layouts before, but this seems to be a shoddy design, although not the worst out there, it isn't very friendly. The radio preset controls are sort of small and require you to look at them to discern which number is which. The mode button should have been placed either at the end, or not in the same row as I do press it when trying to press the first preset. The volume knob, when pressed in, allows you to change settings, but is too easily pushed inwards, causing accidental pushes often. And to get back to volume control, you have to push it in several more times, it gets tiring after a while, but some people may not have this problem.
I do like the OFF button, which is useful in situations. Also the source button is well placed, allowing seamless transitions from your CD's to the radio to the auxiliary port.
Performance - Decent performance, does not distort easily, plays anything you throw at it. CD's, MP3's, CD-R/RW's, and it reads all formats fast, meaning short load times. The radio sensitivity is decent, but a definite upgrade over a stock unit. One of the best features is a front panel auxiliary port. Easy connections for your MP3 player, portable media device, or even your laptop!
Overall the sound quality is excellent.
Conclusion - Good head unit that performs well for the price, auxiliary input is in the front, plays all types of CD's, and good sound quality.
Bad layout, bland looks, but overall a great HU for the price.
