| kona001's Full Review: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P200 Digital Camera |
First of all, I am a professional photographer and I am very picky when it comes to quality vs. ease of use. I own a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II which is one of the best cameras out there. I've been looking for a pocket camera to fill the gap when I go to parties and family gatherings instead of lugging around my professional working camera. I was never impressed by any that I have bought and tried in the past, until this one. A friend of mine had bought the P150 which was last years model and had shown me some pictures he had taken. They were gorgeous. I immediately set out to go buy one until I saw the announcement from Sony about this new model version. I immediately decided I was going to wait and take a look at what new features this one had over the P150. The main differences are a one push manual (custom) white balance, a spot focus mode, a center-weighted metering mode, and it has lower power consumption than its predecessor, the P150. The lower power consumption (from doing much research) is due to the fact that the image processor is newer and more efficient. This is amazing since the screen is 2 inches in size 1/10th larger than the P150. It is also the first LCD screen which I see as being protected by a screen that also improves visibility in daylight. I immediately bought a Sandisk Ultra II Memory Stick Pro and tested out its video mode just for fun. It was impressive to get VHS quality video from a tiny digital camera. Ultimately, the real reason I got this was to take quick pictures with my family and not have to take my large clunky camera which I use for my job. The picture quality is excellent, and the color balance is amazingly perfect with very little adjustment. The instruction manual is very easy to read and ultimately it has enough manual features for every occasion. I was very impressed. The most impressive feature and this was the selling point for me was how fast the startup time and taking the first shot was. Ive never seen a camera this fast before at 7MP. I recommend this camera to anyone who is a beginner since the auto setting works very well. As for me, I like to get the perfect shot and am willing to try a couple settings and the white balance feature hasnt let me down.
