brimia's Full Review: Sony Cyber-shot® DSC-S600 Digital Camera
After waiting about 10 years to get a decent replacement digital camera, the Sony Cyber-shot is a dream. It's small but packed with features. We purchased it at Staples because they had it on sale, plus had a coupon, plus a rebate for the memory stick (not included). Sony has a good track record for product reliability. We plan on keeping this one for about 10 years too, hopefully. While looking at other brands of similar price but slightly higher mega pixels, the salesperson still recommended the Sony. 6 MPs was definitely a step up for us and is really all we need. We rarely print pictures...mostly download to the computer, burn to CD or email to others. However, 6 MP will allow you to print up to 11x14 size photo (I can't imagine I'd have the need to print any bigger than this anyway).
The 2" LCD screen is crystal clear but is set flush which may increase its chance of getting scratched. To save battery life, the screen can be turned off between picture taking or while using the viewfinder(which not all digital cameras have). Compared to experience with a couple of other cameras, the battery life is great. However, I still recommend using rechargeables because most digital cameras have somewhat poor battery life.
While the menu and some options can be a little confusing to work without the manual, basic operations are easy and taking great pictures are a snap.
There's also video recording capabilities though we've only used this once to make sure it worked. You can't zoom while recording.
