| azmodeous's Full Review: Sony DAV-C900 Theater System |
I had been looking to purchase a home theater system to compliment my 36" Sony Vega, and found the perfect match in the DAV-900 after reading a favorable review in a local magazine.
-THE PURCHASE-
I purchased the system from 6ave.com for $677, which blew me away considering I was expecting to pay the advertised $999. I highly recommend this retailer who sold me the system for the lowest price I could find on the net, and they had it to my door in 72 hours.
-THE SETUP-
It took me about an hour to get everything ready to roll. Hooking up the speakers was very simple, and there was plenty of speaker cord (around 40' to the rears). I hid the rear wires under an area rug that covers the length from my TV to my sofa. I spent most of the time trying to get my TV audio to come through the system, as well as my PS2. I did not find the instructions very clear in terms of attaching components. Then again, I'm no engineer. I liked the ability to easily configure the speakers based on the size of the room. Overall, I would say that the setup was relatively simple.
-PERFORMANCE-
I find the system audio to be quite crisp, the SACDs sound amazing (super audio cds, a proprietary format jointly developed by Sony & Phillips that offer super high quality sound distributed across multiple channels, around 500 titles currently available). I was surprised at the lack of power, however. I was expecting a lot more out of 600 watts. Don't get me wrong - there is certainly enough to fill a small to average size room (mine is approximately 15' x 20') - but if you are looking to wow your friends by rumbling the foundation of your home, this is not the system for you. But it is definitely more than adequate when it comes to watching movies and listening to music at a reasonable volume. The DVD quality is great along with the Vega technology. Switching discs is definitely slow, but I don't consider this a show stopper. Some have complained about the size of the remote and buttons, I think its just fine.
