Pros: Semi-lightweight, great image quality, USB / memory stick, all-around good basic Mini-DV camcorder.
Cons: Bottom-loading cassette, slight low light issues
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a decent camcorder with solid features at an affordable price, the Sony DCR-TRV18 is definitely worth your investment.

iAs an avid amateur videographer on a limited budget, the Sony DCR-TRV18 has all the essential functions anyone who is looking for an all-around basic camcorder would need.
I've used many mini-DV camcorders, from high end (Sony PD-150, Canon GL-2) to low end (Sony TRV20,25,30, Canon Elura 40MC). I can definitely say the TRV18 is definitely a very solid camera at an affordable price.
Avaiability?
Unfortunately, its not one of the easiest camcorders to find either, since its one of the older TRV models and (I could be wrong) discontinued by Sony. You may not find it in too many stores who are typically sporting the newest models available. This can be troublesome, but if you're willing to scrouge around, you might just find it on Ebay (where I bought mine).
The Good
*Accessories -- It came with an A/V out cable, power cable, remote control, USB cable, firewire cable, and a battery that lasts around 160 min if charged fully.
*Semi-lightweight -- This may not matter to a some, but it matters to me. I don't like my cameras too heavy or too light, so this camera is perfect for how heavy it is.
*Solid image quality -- I can shoot forever on this thing (provided I have enough battery power). It takes clean and crisp images with the right light. Indoor and outdoor are pretty good, although depending on the indoor lighting it can be so-so.
*No Touchscreen! -- I might alienate myself for liking touch screen services. But the truth is I cannot stand touch-screen because I do not trust the LCD screen to be a reliable source for pressing buttons ... and I hate fingerprints.
The BAD
*Bottom Loading Cassette -- Just wait till you use this thing on a tripod. It'll become a nuisance to have to remove it and put it back on when you need to change tapes. This is common with Sony Mini-DV TRV models.
