Pros: Long battery life. Good CD Playback
Cons: Limited Mp3 playback didn't work for me. Might work for you.
The Bottom Line: If you are interested in hi-fi Mp3 playback, do not buy this unit. If 128 bps is okay with you, I bet it would work.

| st_imbob's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-CJ500 Personal CD Player |
|
Short story: I bought the Sony D-CD500, but returned it because it skipped on some MP3s and could not read some CD-RWs that I had written Long story: CD playback was excellent. Supplied headphones were adequate. The MP3 playback was another story. First, the Signal/Noise ratio seemed high. It sounded a little like tape hiss, and I never experienced that when I played them in WinAmp. But I get head of myself, since it took me a while to get there, since it could not read the CD-R that I had burnt. It seems to have a pretty primitive notion of CDFS, and will only allow upper-case letters in filenames, amongst other restrictions. When I chopped them down and converted my filenames, it worked, kind of. I had a bunch of high bitrate (224 kb/s, variable) MP3s already recorded, and these would skip sometimes. Finally, I read the manual and see that they recommend 128kb/s with a fixed bitrate. That's a little low for me. Sony's in the music business and I wonder if they want me making hi-fi MP3s or not.
