| updateghost's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-E350 Personal CD Player |
Since the beginning of my freshman year, I've been carrying a Sony CD player with me to and from school- not the one I'm reviewing in particular, but always something from Sony. And since I've been carrying one with me for so long, I've grown an attachment of sorts to it, getting very angry when I misplace- I march around the house, searching, yelling "I've lost my CD Player! I can't lose that CD Player! IT'S A PART OF ME!" And it is. For some reason, and I don't want to sound like some sort of freak, but I feel as if I am one with my Sony CD player. I listen to it when riding the bus to school, from school, and I even sneak in listens in class sometimes. I love my Sony CD Player.
The quality? As many of my friends would say, it's damn good CD player, while it lasts. It has good clean bass, assuming you have good headphones too handle its bass. Buying this player gives you three bass options: none, some, and SUPA HEAVY BASS. If the headphones I'm wearing can handle it, I usually go with the SUPA HEAVY option. The sound quality ends up very clean, loud, and pure.
However, the player's options are quite limited. You are given multiple play options, and that's about the only thing, besides the bass, that there's variety with. You can play whatever you are listening to over and over again, you can play a song over and over again, you can listen to one song, or you can put the album on continuous random play (I usually go with just listening to the album straight through, or choosing whatever tracks I prefer). You don't have the option of making the player play just a certain few songs, and that's where the player really falls short. Plus, there's no radio tuner- you're stuck to listening this one CD, but I guess that's not a shortcoming.
The player also has a slightly different way of choosing songs- there's no pause button, instead, the play button and the forward button are one in the same, and the other buttons are just the backwards button, the stop button, and volume control (you also have that thing called "hold," where you can make it so that pressing the other buttons won't do anything). The stop button functions somewhat as a pause, because when you press stop, and then play, without releasing the CD, the music will resume where you had stopped it pretty quickly.
Finally, the album's lasting quality- these CD players break quite easily. It is a damn good thing I got a two-year warranty on them, because I've gone through four in the last year and a fourth. The first two broke really easily, the third lasted about a year, and the one I'm on right now, I've had for three months. So, if you do buy this, I advise that you get a warranty.
Overall, because of its good sound, this is a damn good CD player, being easy to carry around, and for some reason, I'm calling it comfy- I feel, since my CD player and I are one in the same, that we're together, and I think the same thing might just happen to you. One last thing- occasionally, the album I'm listening to will end abruptly, for no reason at all. My friend has reported this problem with his player as well. It's something that happens about once every two months, and I guess you could only really care if you're angry at the moment. But it really doesn't affect the overall quality of the player.
