| Fizz911hk2's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-ES51 Personal CD Player |
As we headed out of the beach house, tragedy struck. I realized that my favorite discman, one of those purple and black Aiwa crosstrainers with the silver lock on the front, in the whole world was left behind. Since we were well into Alabama now, with my beach house being in Florida, it was too late to go back. We tried calling our realtor and seeing if they found it and they denied that they ever did (this is Rivard Realty. STAY AWAY!). It seemed like we would have to buy a new one. With a trip to Montana only days away and no crosstrainer discman in sight, we bought this from a Sam Goody.
How does it stack up? Not so good I'm afraid. It has some pretty impiressive features. I'm pretty sure it's water resistant, it has 30 anti shock, diffurent music settings yadda yadda... But are they well done? Not really? Does it offer anything my old Aiwa didn't offer except for the custom music settings, No!
First is the shock. 30 seconds anti-shock is pretty good. Sure, you can get 40 on the aiwa but do you really need those extra 10? No, you don't. However, what did annoy me is that you can ONLY chose 30 seconds anti-shock. On my aiwa I would keep it at 10 seconds anti-shock (you can choose 10 and 40) and it would be just fine. Now I'm waisting batteries for what I don't need. But the most pathetic thing is that often if it does hit something, the CD would come out of the little thing in the middle which holds it, so you can't listen at all!
For the headphones I can't say much as I never really used them. I always hated these ones that stick in your ear, they get incredibly itchy and you can forget about ever hearing anybody else. However, the sound can't get much better unless it's on of those huge things you won't want to walk around the street in. Instead I bought some that match the CD player very nicely and go around the back of your head (like the Aiwa headphones)(these headphones were the Sony MDR-G59)
The customized music settings barely make difference no matter if you put it on Rock or whatever. At least not much to me. I'd much rather being able to play around with the treble and bass.
The rest is much like the Aiwa Crosstrainer which you'll find around the same price I think (the price stated for this product on epinions is WAY off) but the Aiwa is just so good that there really isn't any reason TO buy this one. Why settle for a slow computer when you can get a faster one at the same price? I sure as heck don't know why.
