| Candlewick's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-F411 Personal CD Player |
I've had my Sony F-411 for about 5 months now and I think it's great. I bought it at Fred Myer's for I think about $100. I first chose this product out of the other ones first off because of the looks and how that compared to the price. :) I know thats not the best thing to do but it didn't hurt me this time. This CD player has lots of great features. One of the best features is the fact that it has an AM/FM Tuner built in to it. That's a great feature and it actually works prety well. I live in a fairly rural area, prety far away from my favorite radio station, but it still comes in great. The radio feature has lots of features like 4 sets of 6 programable FM slots and 1 AM set. The sound quality of the radio is quite good for a "CD Player" I think. I must be honest though, I don't use the radio feature much, I mostly use it at night when lying in bed reading or something. And that brings me to another thought. This CD player is extremly durable. I've rolled over on it numerus times and found it has great durability. I have dropped it twice from a hight of about 4 feet (Fell out of my pocket) and it still runs fine. Only durability problem I've had is that the LCD display shows a little bit of that rainbow color, but thats because of me rolling on top of it so many times. Another great feature is the bass system. This player has a great bass that I'm real happy with. I personally like a lot of bass in my music and I can't complain with this CD player. Although you should probably have a good set of headphones to take advatage of the bass because it might sound a little distorted if you don't. Another feature I like is the Anti-Skip feature. Honestly I don't know how much anti-skip it has but I havn't had it skip once on me when I didn't want it to. (On the player it says "ESP^2" but I don't know what that means :) I walk around with this player in my pocket ALL THE TIME and it never skips which surprises me because I wear real baggy pants and the player swings around a lot. Another thing about it is that it is sorta heavy and bulky, so when I put it in my pocket it does swing around a lot. It's also got another feature which I don't use at all really, called "AVLS" (Auto Volume Limiter System). You can limit how loud the CD plays or something, I don't use it at all but I'm sure it's useful for something or someone.
One bad thing I found about this player is the buttons. They are real big and flat. So if you put it in your backpack or something you better have it on 'hold' or else you'll run out of batteries REAL fast! But the battery energy consumtion of this player is great. It can last on two costco batteries for probably 24hours straight (thats just a guess). Thats just a guess, but I have to change batteries once mabey twice a week which isn't bad compared to my brothers player.
In conclusion I think this is a pretty good player. It's got all the features a kid would need and it isn't too bad of a price. It also has a great Anti Skip Protection which is a great feature. If you are planing on getting a new CD Player I wouldn't mark this one off your list but I would look around first. I did find this one on sale so the price wasn't too bad for me. But honestly, if I wasn't so pushed for time that day, I probably would have looked around some more. Although if you would like to listen to the radio some times then this is a great CD player because the radio feature is really well done.
