| sashadavidov's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-F411 Personal CD Player |
When I was searching for a Discman, I was bothered by the lack of a radio on every portable CD player I looked at many different brands, but I couldn't find one I liked. One day, I happened to walk into Circuit City, and I noticed the D-F411 sitting there with the other CD players. I had to have it.
Simply put, this is the only portable CD player I would ever use. At the time of purchase, there were no CD players with a radio, and while there are a few now, they are of poor quality. The Sony Discman provides the Sony quality we've come to expect, with what I feel is the best feature on the product (the radio).
The Discman is slightly larger than I'd like it to be, so it's slightly out of date. The batteries last 10-12 hours, depending on ESP use (which provides very good shock protection, but jogging isn't really practical). I use the Discman in my car all the time, and it works perfectly. The line out is perfect for car stereo use. It never skips with ESP on, and only occasionally with it off. Overall, the CD player is great, but the features are only average (except for the radio).
Basically, unless you're interested in the radio, then there are probably better CD players out there. If you plan to use it in your car only, look for something else. But if the radio feature interests you, this is the way to go. It's unfortunate that there's so little competition between portable CD players with radios built in, if there was more, perhaps we'd see smaller, newer designs.
