I bought this CD player in September of 1999. I really wanted a portable CD player that also had a radio. There were not many to choose from, but Sony has a good reputation, so my lack of choices did not bother me. But this CD player ended up doing EXACTLY what my last Sony portable CD player had done: it died on me after a year.
When my first one stopped working, I was upset. After all, I'd bought a Sony. But I later found out that someone who had bought the same one, had the same experience so I figured it was just a fluke with that model. So I bought Sony again. I will never buy a portable CD player from Sony in the future.
The radio still works, but the CD player does not, despite several attempts to follow the trouble shooting guide. Since my last Sony had died on me, I was VERY careful with this one.
While it still worked fully, I loved this CD player. The combination of the CD player and the radio was a huge asset. I enjoyed this product all the way up until the day it stopped working. But I would expect a Sony CD player to last more than one year with normal (even gentle) use. But because Sony's warranty is only 90 days, I've been stuck with broken CD players that would cost more to get fixed than I paid for them in the first place.
Maybe I have just had two individually bad CD players. I do not know. But I can tell you that my experiences will keep me from buying any portable CD player from Sony ever again.
