| fggss's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-F411 Personal CD Player |
This Discman is a very solid product. It is equipped with many of the features common to portable CD players such as anti-skipping mechanism, but offers one feature that I especially enjoy because it is not very common. The model D-F411 comes equipped with an AM/FM radio along with its CD playing capabilities.
Some of the specifications of this product are as follows. It takes two "AA" batteries and claims that it can run 14 hours with ESP off. However, I have found that you want ESP on in order to achieve the best performance from your discman and this significantly abates the run time on two "AA" batteries. The lifetime of the player is reduced to about 8 hours with the ESP option on. Sony uses something called Electronic Shock Protection (ESP) and this model is equipped with ESP2, the second generation ESP. And of course there is the radio with AM and FM receivers along with 30 station presets available. However, 24 can be used in FM and 6 in AM. I find the that six in AM is not enough while the 24 in FM is far too many, but this is just a minor point. There are also 10 playback modes available for the CDs including one track, one track repeat, all disc, all disc repeat, RMS, repeat RMS, shuffle, repeat shuffle, Introscan, repeat Introscan. RMS programming allows you to order or program 22 tracks and Introscan is like a scan button on the radio. The Introscan allows you to hear little portions of each song and then move on to the next.
The discman itself weighs 9 and 1/8 ounces and the dimensions are 5 1/4 in. by 1 1/4 in. by 6 in. not like its really important, but its nice to know.
