| webmaiden's Full Review: Sony STR-DE685 5.1 Channels Receiver |
First of all, I purchased this as an "Open Box" from Circuit City. If you ever do this, make sure you open the manual at the store to make sure they give you everything that goes with it (they did not give me an FM antenna and gave me the wrong remote).
Secondly, the salesman told me it was normally $299, so I thought it was a good deal. I see from here you can get it for as low as $219. Well, I am not surprised as I think the sound is terrible!
The first thing I tried was playing a movie. Well, we were like, "What's that sound?" The movie sounded like it was being played though a tunnel! The stereo sound was so bad, we ended up listening to the movie thru the TV!
Then I tried some different types of music CDs. Better than movies, but not much. It still had a lot of tremble type sound. I guess part of the problem is that is does not have an equalizer. You can only chose from different pre-sets. None of which I found to sound as good as my 100W Pioneer receiver I purchased 14 years ago for $300.
Lastly, they make it difficult to hook up the stereo wire.
I will be returning this unit. I very disappointed in Sony. I also purchased one of their digital cameras earlier this year and have had problems and customer service is terrible! No support for this camera on the web, no replies via email and the phone people aren't much help either. I'm staying away from Sony from now on. Once they built their name, they stopped building quality products!
