Pros: Sounds good, handles new sound and connection standards. Easy to set up and operate.
Cons: Haven't found anything disappointing.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend this for someone who isn't an audiophile and just wants an easy, simple reciever that is also reliable and capable of handling the newer sound standards.

| abun's Full Review: Sony STR-DE685 5.1 Channels Receiver |
This receiver follows the Sony tradition of reliable and easy to use electronics. Our old receiver didn't have digital inputs, and it was fritzing out on us, so we bought this one after comparison with other sub-$300 recievers. It decodes DTS, Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II and I, along with regular audio signals. It has three optical ins, one optical out, and one digital coaxial in. There is also one set of multichannel in, along with a plethora of standard RCA ins. A speakers are 5.1, while B speakers are stereo. It also has full speaker configuration (size, placement, etc...) and various pre-configured settings for audio; it uses DSP for those and user specified settings.
