| queenofallevil's Full Review: Sony Ericsson K810i Blue Smartphone |
I bought my first K810i the day they were released to Sweden. Needless to say, I was awed by it. The screen is supurb, but the best perk of owning this phone is the digital camera.
The Sony Ericcson K810i comes equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera that takes FANTASTIC pictures. Forget the usual grubby/fuzzy pictures most people imagine when discussing cell phone snaps. No, this phone really does it and does it well - I tossed out my own digital camera after seeing the K810i delivered better pictures, and unlike my clunky digital camera, the K810i was always with me - a huge bonus! No more planning to take a camera with to school events, etc. No more "Oh I wish I could get a picture of this!", if you are like me one of the few things you do carry is your cell phone, and having a camera that delivers crisp great pictures with you at all times is just a huge benefit to owning this model.
Don't be put off by the description of "blue" for the K810i. This model of phone actually comes in two colors - golden ivory (read: plain white) *or* noble blue. I own the "blue" version but honestly, it really isn't blue. If you are holding the phone in your hand you would swear it was black. I think Sony's execs must be color blind. But this phone really isn't about being stylish or having fun colors available to match your wardrobe - this phone is a workhorse.
It comes with 2 GB of memory, but if you are like me and enjoy taking videos, photos, or having an extensive music library on your phone I would heartily suggest paying a few extra bucks for extra memory. Another must-have for photo lovers is a wireless bluetooth adapter (I use D-Link) so you can transfer your photos from your K810i easily from your couch at the click of a button, without having to resort to pesky cables to link to your PC (though those are included in the box along with the PC software bundle). Also included is a small wrist handstrap of fake suede (Fuede?) but the strap itself is pretty flimsy and always frays within days of use. The strap itself is very small, and will not fit over most men's wrists. The phone is also 3G and bluetooth capable - which is very handy.
Unfortunately, I've had the pleasure of owning three of these. My first phone was killed in action because of "water damage". I really don't remember getting it wet, but 4 months after owning it the 1, 3, and 6 button quit working, and the phone would power off immediately after charging (which is unusual, this phone charges very quickly and holds a good charge for a long time!). I returned it to the store where I bought it who in turn sent it to Sony Ericsson - but they refused to cover it under warranty.
Not to be dismayed I bought a second one (again in noble blue) which I had for about a year until after 23 hours of flight I forgot it on a bench in Stockholm Airport on Sept 2nd, 2008. It was sadly (and not suprisingly) never turned in to lost and found at airport security.
I bought my last and current noble blue in October 2008, and so far so good...hopefully I'll manage to keep tabs on this one for a while. My husband has owned his own K810i for a year with just one minor issue, the button used to take photos with does not work anymore, so he is forced to press the "center" button on the joystick.
In all, I would highly recommend the K810i. It is a good solid phone (provided you keep it dry!) with excellent reception and clarity, and all the right applications you would want or need coupled with perhaps one of the best built-in cameras on the market.
