| el-tigre's Full Review: Sony Ericsson T28z Cell Phone |
[Update: In under than 120 days service I had to return my T28z for factory service because of sudden poor reception. This phone was out of stock or I would have just purchased a new one. I'm told Ericsson service can take up to six (6) weeks. Will advise when phone is returned. Loaner phone demonstrates MUCH better signal reception than my beloved T28z.]
I found the Ericsson T28z flip phone to be easy and intuitive to setup with the aid of the excellent User's Guide. In less than 15 minutes I was able to enter over a dozen numbers into the directory and also setup the voice activated calling feature. The easy-to-follow guide and menu made the experience gratifying, not frustrating. Later, feeling adventurous, I was able to easily input some FREE ring-tone melodies from the Web. Assigning custom ring-tone melodies to my Wife, Mom, and Boss was a snap.
I'm a 6-foot tall, 230 pound construction worker; I can squeeze into my imported 4X4 pickup truck and go to work in heavy construction all day without even knowing I'm wearing the T28z when I use the OEM horizontal belt holster. Incredible!
For those who are physically active the flip phone design shields the keypad, preventing unwanted activation. My Wife's Nokia 3390 sometimes dials out when her purse gets bumped. [Update: My Wife fixed Nokia 3390 dial out problem by using keyguard option. She is NOT a techy.]
If you set the voice dial option to activate upon opening and you'll have the quickest drawing cell phone on the block. Ten spaces are available for voice dialing.
Marketing Hint to Ericsson: Beef up your hands-free jacks and you could corner the construction cell phone market. [Update: Just use the same metal post style jacks that everyone else uses! (Nokia-style jacks.)] Lots of construction sites have only one or two pay phones available to fifty or sixty workers. Our bosses don't like to see us hanging out by the pay phones – especially on company time. Construction workers LOVE cell phones. Due to stagnant wages most of us who have school aged children also have working wives. Cell phones help us stay in touch while we're at work and coordinate vital daily tasks – like who is working overtime and who is going to pick-up the kids after school.
Once you have your Ericsson T28z for a month you'll wonder how you got along without it. Cingular Wireless was promoting this phone for under $25. [Update: Cingular - Parrot are out of stock on this phone in my area as of 7/6/01, or I would've purchased another T28z at less than $138.00 rather than use the BRICK loaner phone they provided me.]
