UPDATE AS OF APRIL 2001: I've now owned this phone for a long enough time to really say how reliable it is. I still get great reception on it, and battery life is just as good as before. However, I was apprehensive about it being a flip phone when I first got it, and now I know why. It has started to become loose, and while it doesn't affect the phone use, it is just plain annoying. I also upgraded to a slim battery for this phone, which gives it a sleeker look and even more lightweight, not that you need it to weigh less.
This phone has been great for me in the first month I've had it. I got the T-28z, which I think is only available on GSM 1900. Provider is Cingular/Pacbell. Reception has been significantly improved over my previous phone, a Motorola Timeport which gave me plenty of problems (see review). The only real problem I have with the T-28 is that it's a flip phone, and I'm just not used to that yet. Asides from great reception, the battery life is pretty good for such a small tiny phone, giving me about 2-3 hours of talk time, 3 days standby... I turn the phone off when I sleep and otherwise leave it on all the time and the battery indicators have been very accurate.
The phone has many extra features such as alarm clock, stop watch, video games, etc. The menu is tinier than most phones, especially if you're used to using Nokias... but once you get used to it, it's very easy to navigate.
Overall I highly recommend this phone, it's not expensive, is easy to use, and performs well. I guess the only thing I haven't figured out yet is how durable it is, but only time will tell.
