| kidsoeiro's Full Review: Sony HT-1700D Theater System |
I like eletronicals. I like Sony. I do like also other video/sound manufacturers, but I like Sony best. I was just searching in Internet for a good Home Theater solution and found it in a Brazilian site (Iīm Brazilian). First of all, I looked all photos the site had about the set. There were just too, but one of them was very big and showed everything I wanted to see: the back panel from the receiver and it was enough for to decide buy it. There are plenty of connections, in and out, for everything a home user, even a hardcore user, would need to install. I also liked the fact the receiver and DVD player come separated.
When I received the set and unpacked it, I found it very easy to install all the system stuff. I made almost everything without consulting the manual, but I know itīs only possible for who likes eletronically stuff, otherwise... The speaker design is very simple, but the color silver makes all the set very beautiful. As I didnīt want to read the manual, I plugged everything, turned on and SURPRISE!!! I couldnīt make it work in the first time. The display was showing only the DEMO message and the remote didnīt work. After reading the manual I knew I had to turn it on and off and on again. That was boring, Sony could have made it easier, but...
I really liked the sound quality, itīs very clean and smooth, but I didnīt like the satellite speakers do not reproduce bass. If I want to hear a music CD while Iīm doing something at home without any Dolby format, I have to put it on A.Dec. and not in 2CH, that would be correct. It obligates me to turn the subwoofer on everytime I want to hear any media in 2CH mode to hear the bass. I can live with it...
But the worst of the set is the absence of a DVD changer and the numbers functions on the DVDīs remote: you cannot access any DVD easter egg that require numbers. If itīs possible I donīt know. Whoever reads this and knows how to do, please give them my email adress...
Overall, Itīs a very good set and though here in Brazil itīs more expensive than the other pals who wrote a review because itīs imported, I still found it a very nice "toy" for my weekends when all I want is some pop corn, a pepsi and a good Movie to watch with a great sound.
