Pros: Looks good, sets up in less than an hour.
Cons: Controls are scarce on the DVD player
The Bottom Line: Its a decent system if you are looking for something temporary- or a system for a small room. Not enough for the audiophiles though.

| wesstanden's Full Review: Sony HT-1700D Theater System |
I bought this system after looking around for a short amount of time because of the low price and the looks. After owning the system for about a month, I can say that it measures up as a decent system, but not anything that sounds like it costs more than what it does. The subwoofer does a decent job, and when set up properly, the system will do a good job at surround sound.
In terms of convenience, the system can be brought home, taken out of the box, and set up and running in less than an hour. Additional time is required to hide the wires though.
In terms of complaints, I have two. First off, the wires included with the system are *just* long enough to get the speakers where they need to be in my mid-sized living room. Way too short. Once I bought additional wire, I didn't have them stretched all over the place. Secondly, the DVD player doesn't have cursor controls on the unit. You need to have the remote handy to negotiate the DVD menus. It's pretty irritating.
