I write fiction and dictate notes on the fly. For years I've struggled with microcassette recorders and expensive secretarial playback units. This beats all that.
Record long or short notes. The documentation calls them "messages". Then, and this is the best part, hook up the included USB cable to your computer, plug the cable into the DVR, run the included software, and QUICKLY export/upload all the notes you've take to your computer. Then, thru a poorly designed menu interface in the software, you can delete all the recorder's messages, free up 2 hours of recording time at the high quality, and you're ready to record more.
When it comes time to transcribe, you sit at your laptop, click on a message, listen to it play, and type what you want into your word processing program. If you talk fast, it's easy to pause the message to catch up with your typing. This method works very well and is VERY productive. I recommend it to anyone who writes.
Obviously, shopping for stuff and making audio notes, will work as well. Anytime you want to capture information for later transcription, this unit beats anything I've seen.
