Pros: Great picture quality on HD channels, great product design
Cons: Sound bass,Slow response with universal remotes, price, picture quality when not in HD
I did quite a bit of research on the Sony KDL-46XBR4 46 inch LCD TV before I decided to purchase the television set.
While many people seem to recommend this television, given its price, its worth noting a few of the negative aspects of the television. First is the aspect of price. Given the change in market conditions, it will likely continue to decrease in price, as two large LCD panel factories recently finished construction in Japan within the past year. Next is the aspect of changing technologies. Currently, a new technology is being developed in Australia that features even brighter and more vivid colors than do current LCD technologies. If this is a new technology that is adopted, many of the people that are buying the LCDs might in turn be attracted by the new technology. However, in terms of other technologies being developed (and becoming affordable), it will be unlikely to occur within the next 10 years according to experts I talked with. Finally, in terms of the sound. While the television "sound" can get loud in comparison to other televisions I've purchased, its overall bass seems to be subpar compared to other plasma and LCD televisions that I've looked in. In addition, there is a 10-15 second lag time when I try to change between DVD, surround sound, and other systems when connected with the television. While this isn't a big deal, its just something to remember when your trying to switch between everything.
With all that said, I did end up purchasing the television set and am very happy with it. I personally love the glass design, which complements my room almost perfectly. In addition, the positive nature of LCD technology allows me to place it anywhere in my room without having to worry about light placing an awkward reflection on the TV set, which you have to worry about with plasma TVs. In addition, the picture quality is right up there with any set on the market and the HD quality (on HD channels) is amazing to watch.
So basically, if your looking for an HD television that can be placed in any room (or are not sure where you want to place it in your house, apartment, etc) with a great picture quality, Sony is for you. If your looking for the more economical television set, this might not be for you.
