We all know that good earbud headphones are hard to find. They tend to sound extremely wimpy and hollow. I hate that. I needed to find a pair that would blow me away with their sound quality. But "was there really such a thing?" I thought...
I was in my local Wherehouse, having just sold my old CD's to get some store credit. I looked around to see what I could get for $20. I was at the headphones wall and eyeing all the different styles and brands of headphones. I needed a small, portable pair for taking to school, working out, etc. Luckily, I kind of know that the lower the frequency response of a headphone, the better the bass will sound. And the broader range of frequency response would ensure you get adequate treble and cleaner sound as well. So I was lookin at the backs of all these headphones and most of them didn't even go under 12-16 Hz. Then I saw a lonely package of the Sony Groove MDR-ED228LP hangin all alone. I quickly looked at the specs and I hit the jackpot. Frequency range stated 8 - 23,000Hz. Great! And to sell me on buying them even more, the package illustrates the earbud's specially designed Bass Boosters on each bud, "for more powerful bass and better wearing comfort." Yes! I never thought I'd shell out $20 for earbud headphones, but I knew it was worth it.
Cracking the package open upon getting home, I plugged them into my Rio Volt (read my review on this fabulous mp3/CD player by the way!) and played my favorite Techno CD to inspect how well these earbuds can really perform.
Wow, I really was impressed. These earbuds may be small but they definitely DO NOT SKIMP ON SOUND! The Bass Booster feature was really apparent and the sound was just like a traditional pair of over the head headphones, if not better. Now this is what I call SOUND! I cranked up the volume some more and I was groovin on these pair of earbuds. You'll be so amazed at how well they can deliver crisp, distortion free sound, solid bass and great treble. They're fabulous.
They also fit nicely into the ear and don't fall out because they are a little rubberzed, which is a nice touch. The Sony logo is on each bud and a splash of silvery blue is added for a nice look.
An added bonus is that they come with a convenient small carrying pouch which is very easy to just pop open and throw em in. =)
You really get what you pay for. If you think a $5 pair of headphones from Walgreens will tide you over, think AGAIN. Throw those POS heaphones out! I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a college student and I always find myself broke but this $20 went a long way. I, being a true audiophile, am crazy about these earbud headphones. Get your pair of Sony Groove MDR-ED228LP's. The package I bought mine in is red with a yellow "Groove" logo.
