Good Sounding Earbuds For Everyone

Written: Jan 01 '06 (Updated Jun 21 '06)
Pros:good bass and treble, decent price, many sized "sleeves"
Cons:case took awhile, those released from feb. 05 - nov. 05 have a cord issue
The Bottom Line: These headphones have excellent sound, comfort, durability, and price. These are a good bet.

After trying various earbuds, I decided to get some high-quality headphones. There were many choices to choose from. I could have gone with the Shure E2C's, but those were near twice the price of these. I didn't want to go below the $40 mark.

Sound -

As far as sound goes, it's excellent, and to be perfectly honest, unless you want to go over the $100 mark, these are the best portable earbuds. As far as bass goes, it's very deep at 6 Hz. Most people who are fans of R&B or hip-hop should enjoy these headphones. Treble is great as well at 23,000 Hz. Rock sounded excellent as I have nothing bad to say about it. Maybe drums could be a little better on a pair of Shures but what not. For hip-hop, I had to put on some Ying Yang Twins for crazy beats...a perfect test. Bass is amazing, and none of the production was lost. R&B is pretty much a slower version of hip-hop so the comparison is none. Pop sounds very good though when too many things are going on some treble is lost, turning down the bass helped this a lot.

Durability

Well this is sub-sided here. It all depends on when you bought them so I'll break it down.

I bought them before February 2005 or after Novmember 2005 -

Perfect. I spelt soda on these earbuds and they sound like I just bought them. The cord is strong (it's the same kind used on all of Sony's headphones). These will probably last years.

I bought them between February 2005 and Novmember 2005.

Well, hate to say it, but yours are all defective. Sony was aware of a problem that happened and the earbuds would stop working (usually a few weeks to a few months). You may, however, contact Sony and they will give you the new ones they released in Novmember.

Comfort -

These headphones should be comfortable for everyone. Three different sized sleeves come with them, and you can play around until one fits perfectly. I stuck with the medium sized (the ones that were put on when you buy them).

Warranty -

These headphones have a 90-day warranty, something I find slightly unacceptable, but it will do. I recommend returning it to the store first. Usually when I deal with Sony I either get a refurbished product, a simple "no", or my favorite, a new product with some free attitude.

The Case -

The earbuds come with a wind-up case that doesn't wind back up, not sure what the logic was here.

Other Things To Know -

These headphones do NOT come with a monitor plug. Since there are closed-ear you should keep the volume low in public areas or when you are driving. The cord is around 4 feet.

Last Words -

As far as these headphones, I am impressed. The sound is great, good durability (for my set anyway), good price, and very comfortable. I give these two thumbs up!
