Pros: great bass, low disturbance to others, very portable
Cons: useless case, mids are not as good
The Bottom Line: Great sound and significantly better than other in-ear headphones. Purchase these if you prefer not to disturb others and you like deep bass with decent highs.

| dragoon101's Full Review: Sony MDR-EX70LP Consumer Headphones |
I purchased these headphones from Good Guys for $49.99 but I believe some online retailers sell them for slightly less.
Sound Quality:
These headphones are one of the best sounding portable headphones I have ever heard. The highs are very nice and are far better than any of Sony's inferior "Groove" headphones and similarly, are significantly better than Panasonic's version of the in-ear headphones. The mids are little less desirable in that the highs and lows tend to overpower the mids a bit. The bass is very very powerful and is definitely some of the strongest bass I've ever heard from in-hear headphones. However, the bass is not exactly the cleanest bass. If you're a fan of rap music or drum n' bass where the lows go very very low, you'll understand what I mean when i say that the bass is slightly "muddy" instead of "tight". Nonetheless, the sound quality in general is very good and is still a keeper in my opinion.
Construction:
The shape is slightly odd in that there are rubber surrounds on the earpieces instead of the conventional foam covers. The package comes with an extra set of these rubber surrounds and I believe it is this design which creates such powerful bass. When the earphones are inserted into my ear, it almost creates a suction similar to ear plugs. For this reason, when I asked my girlfriend if she could hear my music when I was playing it very loud, she said she could hear it but SIGNIFICANTLY less than when i was using foam surround in-ear headphones. I usually use my headphones with an MD player in a library while reading and I like playing my music loud so it's very important that i don't disturb the other people around me. On the flip side though, if you lose these rubber surrounds (both sets) I don't know of any way of getting a replacment pair except by special ordering through Sony, if that's even possible.
The Case:
The case that comes with the headphones is pretty much useless. The plastic case DOES protect the headphones themselves from damage while traveling but the case does nothing to tidy up the cord or provide a convenient way of carrying them around. I personally prefer the round circular spinning cases that house both the headphones and the cord for simplistic storage and carrying. So the case gets a big thumbs down.
