Pros: very small. complete isolation. physically comfortable. good sound.
Cons: complete isolation. mildly disorienting because of plugged ears.
The Bottom Line: Great earphones for use while alone at home. Wouldn't recommend for casual public use due to extreme isolation and the plugged ear feeling.

| bigboss's Full Review: Sony MDR-EX70LP Consumer Headphones |
I recently bought a portable digital music player and the earphones that came with it were not very good. This seems to be a very common trend. Normally I would prefer the Sony "Streetstyle" headphones over earphones because they seemed to give overall better sound than earbud types. However when wearing sunglasses, due to the style of the headphones, they were very uncomfortable. So I went on a search for good earphones.
I didn't have to look far to come to two choices: The EX70LP or the E888LP. I ride a bus to work so the isolation of the 70's seemed like the better choice. My experience with earphones has always been that they had inferior bass response, and I read that the design of the 70's allowed great bass response.
These things are insanely small. They fit directly into the entrance to the ear canal and stay put due to silicone extensions. It comes with 3 total sets of silicone: large, medium, and tiny.
The 70's do indeed have great bass response. Personally, I found that I had to push them a tad deeper into my ear than I would like to get it though. The overall sound was great.
The isolation was very high, and when listening to music even at a low volume, I could not hear outside noise. I actually found this to be a little more isolation than I desired. Also, I felt rather uncomfortable and disoriented with the feeling of my ears being plugged. They really are just like earplugs. The earphones are physically comfortable and do not hurt the ears during extended periods of use, but being able to hear every word you speak and when you cough, etc very loudly was not fun.
The little case that came with these is relatively useless. You can only store either the cord or the 'phones in it which seems rather pointless.
These earphones appear to be intended for relaxed home listening when you are alone. The sound quality is very high and they are comfortable. The isolation is too high for casual use, and the feeling of plugged ears is not fun when you are out and about.
You can find these for as low as $30 online, but I would not recommend them. For $20 more you can pick up the E888LP's which have standard 16mm drivers and provide an overall better experience, but that review will come another time. :)
