Pros: Price, size, looks

The Bottom Line: The value king, buy these if you want isolation and excellent sound.

| noops's Full Review: Sony MDR-EX70LP Consumer Headphones |
I started looking for a pair of cheap canalphones when I trashed my first pair of Etymotic ER-4P's. That was an expense I didn't want to go through again. So I found Koss's Plug and The Sony's. I ruled out the Plug because of its obviously uncomfortable looking design.
So I ordered a pair of these from sonystyle.com. Excellent service by the way, shipped in two days after order. Anyway, back to the earphones. They came in a retail package, including a case and two other sizes of ear inserts. Along with the earphones also came a case. But that's like the black sheep of the whole offering. The case gives you two choices, you can either store the earbuds and nothing else, or the wire and nothing else. In other words, it's a pretty useless case.
Size and construction is good. They seem pretty durable, nothing that can snap off or something like that. They look pretty good as well. The wires are thin yet not fragile, and aren't microphonic if you were wondering. They are also staggered, so that one earbud has a shorter wire than the other. Some people like it, some people don't, personally I don't mind.
As for sound quality, they're actually a great value. Out of the box the trebles are much too overdone, and the bass is muddled. However, after broken in, the sound is quite good, especially considering the price. If you put a piece over the air holes in the back, the bass becomes more defined, try it if you get the earphones.
As for isolation, well, it's the best you'll get short of putting down $300 for a pair of Ety's. After the earphones have been in for a while the isolation will be better, as they sort of fit to your ear more accurately over time.
All in all they're a great value, buy a pair of these if you're looking for isolation and sound quality.
